Pioneer Spirit
Said Necessary
To Bring Peace
"A pioneer spirit that will ex
cel any pioneer spirit ever dem
onstrated to date is needed to
meet the new frontier which
faces the world today; this new
frontier is world peace through
the brotherhood of man," said
Mrs. Wayne Stauffer in her key
note address to the workshop
on world understanding held
Wednesday, December 5, in the
First Methodist church.
Mrs. Stauffer, Eugene, is the
Oregon conference secretary of
Christian social relations of the
Woman's Society of Christian
Ser-ice. She attended the orig
inal session in Kansas City. Mo.,
in the fall of 1955, when plans
were made to itinerate an inter
national team of Christian wo
men throughout the United
States for one year.
Mrs. Stauffer also said, "We
in America have a large part in
this venture toward world peace
because we have wealth, leader
ship, freedom and a high stand
ard of living of which we are
justly proud. But if we would
keep our standards, it is impera
tive that we share our goods
with the world."
Mrs. C. R. Adamson, Mediord,
Eugene district secretary of the
Wesleyan Service guild, explain
ed to the delegates the purnose
of having this workshop which
had as its theme "Every citizen
is responsible for world peace."
She stressed the need for the
understanding, by each individ
ual, of needs and culture of the
various races in the world today.
At the close of the workshop,
which was attended by delegates
from southwestern Oregon, plans
were made for local workshops
