Plans for Increasing
Facilities at State0
Fair Are Discussed c
o
A committee of Jackson coun
ty residents interested in improv
ing facilities at the Oregon State
Fair 4-H and Future Farmers of
America members met at Crater
High school recently to discuss
plans proposed by the state-wide
committee organized arlier this
fall. -
It was pointed out that both
the youth programs have out
grown facilities availab!e"in the
dormitory 'and non-livestok ex
hibit areas. .
c" -
Machinery exhibits were stack
ed on top of each other or icft
at home because of lack of space
and boys were sleeping on the
ground for lack of other suitable
sleeping facilities, the committee
noted. The combined 4-H aoa
FFA programs have increased
more than !0 times the former
exhibit volume and increase eaclt
year. . o o
Plans have' been drawn, for
the construction of a new dom
itory, cafeteria, auditorium end
exhibit building for use, by 4-H-ers
and FFA. members. The
facilities have been so. designed
so that they may be used year
around by not only 4-Hfcd FFA
groups but by farm organiza
tions and other gmips meeting
inothe Willamette Valley which
would ha need for such facil
ities. O O c .

Committee Seeking to Find
Out How Much Help Needed
Young women left with chil- Pscious and unable asset her-
dren either through desertion
by the father or his death m'ay
often inquire as to where "to go
to receive help in de'terAiinlng
what is best for herself and chil
dren, according to Jackson
County MentaL Health commit
tee. The young mother, in an ex
ample cited by the committee,
does not feel secure in her own
ability to do what should be
done for the family "sinee the
father has gone, yet she does
not want to take work because
she feels her children need her.
. She was unhappy just caring
for the children at home with
out a chance to .get out.
She had been an unhappy
self in classesoor the fw groups
to whih sh belonged. Yet, she
did not wanjt to discussher feel
ings withcficr minister, ancf dur
ing schoo conferences about her
children she tended to "lean
on" thea teacher for advice. The
teaches did not feelo equipped,
nor0had they the time to assfit
in the mother's problem.
The Mental Wealth committee
Is conducting a suryey through
which it hopes to determine how
many such cases there are in.
Jackson county. The committee
also hopesto learn how to help
such situations, whether plan
ning to work, and if so what
arrangements can be made with
the children, and to resolve her
inferior feelings about meeting
child and teenager, self con- and socializing with people.
