Pilot Rock youth charged with leaving "the scene of an ac cident in which a death result ed. The charge against Evans re sulted from the death of Arthur Johnston, 24. of DuBois, Ida., who was killed on U.S. Highway 30 west of here Sept.' 30. On the- date of the accident, Evans was stopped later in the evening for a headlight viola tion. He told the officer he thought he had struck an object on the highway but had. been unable to find anything. The officer accompanied the youth back down the highway and again they failed to find anything that the youth had hit. After returning to his home, Evans aaain went to Pendleton and told state police that he thought he had struck something on the highway.. An officer again accompanied the youth down the highway and this time they found the body of Johnston where he had apparent ly been- struck by a car while hitchhiking a ride. Speaking at the Jackson hotel, the young American field serv ice student currently attending Medford High school, said that his country, a limited monarchy, has joined NATO and her smpM Army, Navy and Air Force is part of the NATO military strength in Europe. Hansen is studying here under the sponsorship of the Medford Rotary club and is living with Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Christensen during his school term. Representing the small nation of Denmark, one-half the size of the state of Maine and with a population of 4,500,000, the young exchange student de scribed his. trip to America as a "wonderful experience." In Den mark people are generally fond of anything that is. American, he told Rotarians. Although a monarchy, Den mark has a governmental system of checks and balances similar to that of the.U. Langston, 1305 Dakota ave., owners of a dog he claims bit his 22-month-old daughter, Charlene Ann, on Oct. 2. In the complaint. Hill describ ed the dog as a large German Weimaraner. having a "vicious propensity of attacking and bit ing humans, particularly . chil dren." He claims the dog bit the child 6n the face, leaving a dis figuring scar and causing her to suffer physical pain and fright. Hill charges of the Langstons with "wanton disregard of the rights of the plaintiff" by keep ing the vicious dog. He is asking $10 special damages; 52,500 gen eral damages, $10,000 exemplary and punitive damages as well as costs and disbursements of the legal action. Attorney for the plaintiffs is Clif Ouellette of Medford. Plates Go On Sale. . For Bicycle Licenses Sale of 1957 bicycle license plates' to those giving bicycles for Christmas gifts started yes terday, according to Charles Champlin, Medford police chief. The regular sale of 1957 bicycle license places, he added, will begin Dec. 26. Price of the plates is 25 cents. Champlin noted that bicycle licenses serve as a "great aid" to police in recovering stolen bicycles and in identifying own ers. A drawing will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, accord ing to Champlin, in order to let youngsters purchase bicycle li cense plates numbered 1 through 100. The chief encouraged as many youths as possible to buy their bicycle license plates during the Christmas, holidays. McDaniel to Speak At Crater Meeting L. H. McDaniel .of Turlock, Calif., will discuss an- analysis program to increase milk pro duction, better animal types and longevity at a meeting of inter ested groups and individuals in the Future Farmers of American classroom at Crater High school at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Week's Analysis program is a new breeding guide being used by dairymen in several sections of -the country, accord ing to Emmett Gott, Medford, area representative of the Curtis Candy company's improved stud farms, Cary,' 111. Also scheduled- to attend the meeting is James C. Kuhtz, Mo desto, Calif., western manager of the Curtis company's farms. Kuhtz and McDaniel will- Spend Thursday, Friday and Saturday analysing dairy herds in Jack son county, Gott said. McDaniel is one. of four such analysists in -the United States."
