About one-half the families In the Vb S. own their homes Ordinances Adopted Changing Two Zones By Medford: Council The Medford city council last night adopted ordinances chang ing zones for two Medford areas. On a recommendation of the planning commission, South Grape. st. between 10th and 11th sts. was rezoned from class II (multiple family) to class IIIA (limited commercial). The council also rezoned the Rogue- Valley hospital site in southeast Medford from class- IA (single family) to class II (mul tiple family). The Free Methodist church withdrew a petition requesting annexation- of its property on South Peach St. Reason' for the withdrawal was that the church has been unable to secure a nec essary easement for sewer con nection to the city sewer system. Resolution Passed A .resolution was passed to consider calling a- public hear ing Dec. 20 -on rezoning two portions of a 17-acre area in the Mont Crest sub-division in south east .Medford.- One . portion is proposed to be" .rezoned from class IA single family) to class IB (two .family) and" the other from class IA to class 'II (mul tiple fainily). . Jlezoning of the remaining areas -ot the sub-division was re ferred to the planning commis sion for study. The commission previously recommended ap proval of the sub-division rezon ing proposals. ' The council also passed a reso lution directing -city officials to familiarize council members with the sub-division area. City officials will point 'out to coun cil members futnre development sites during a tour to the area before the next council meeting. GRAPE PH. 3-1971 Funds To Be Asked For Baghdad Nations Washington U.R) The ad ministration, plans to ask Con gress for funds next year, to pump new military aid into the Baghdad pact nations on Rus sia's southwest flank, officials said today. The action will be a further step to bolster- these nations Turkey, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran and to try to bring stability to the Middle East. The United States just last Thursday took the unusual step of warning would-be aggressors that any threat ' on Baghdad Pact mem bers -would be viewed "with the utmost gravity" by this country even though it is not a member The United States is especial ly anxious to strengthen the pact nations because of recent Soviet efforts to undermine the group. Russian propagandists have been doing their best to stir up trouble, particularly be tween Iraq and its pro-Soviet neighbor, Syria. Sheriffs Deputy to Leave for Fall River Chief Criminal Deputy Joe Walsh of the sheriff's depart ment, will leave today for Fall River, Mass., where he will seek extradition for Jose Martin, 34, formerly of Phoenix, to Jack son county. . . .
