Mayo Foundation Stopping Drugi When One'i Skin Breaks Out Recently, I had a column on curing one's skin disease or severe itching or rash by stop- Wfl oine the use of all drugs be ing taken. Many a rash is due to the tak ing of a bar biturate sleeping-pill, a laxa tive, a seda tive, or even aspirin. A while ago I ill AJvarex told of a woman whose severe and apparently hopeless diar rhea was cured over-night when she stopped drinking several extra quarts of water a day water that she thought would improve her health. One of my secretaries just showed me a letter from a very grateful woman who said that for a long time she had had a distressing diarrhea which made her life utterly miserable. No thing doctors had tried had done her any good. Then she saw my column, and stopped taking a tonic that someone had once given her and which she had been taking for two years. She had never suspected this as the cause of the diarrhea because it was supposed to be so good for her. Anyway, she stopped tak ing it, and all of a sudden she found herself well. Polycythemia Polycythemia is a rare dis ease in which the patient has too many red blood cells. One occasionally sees persons with a slight polycythemia, associated with asthma or emphysema both diseases in which the aera tion of the blood in the lungs is Craler To Present Mystery Drama Central Point. "The Girl in the Rain," a mystery drama, will be presented at Crater High school Thursday and Friday nights, Nov. 29 and 30. Curtain time is at 8 p. m. The Curtain Callers, drama club, is presenting the play. The plot centers around a well-to-do family, the Underhills, and a my sterious girl found outside their door-step one rainy night. Dur ing the course of the play, a murder episode is brought to an end in a surprising and violent manner. Members of the cast include Sharlette Hale, winner of last years "Jerome" for the best fe male performance, who has been cast as Eve, the girl in the rain. Pat Medley portrays Alicia Underbill, a gracious society matron and mother of David Underhill, played by David Mack. Natalie Price, David's fiancee, is played by Judy Van Horn. Other roles include Julie, the maid, played by Rose Drake; Thomas, the butler, Neil Green; and Karen Bennett, a reporter, by Grace Gail. Carl Koellner has the part of Larry Cotton, and Bayard Stone will play Dr. Will Moody. Ron Lamb, dramatics teacher, is director for the play, and Ole Ohrman is his assistant director. defective. Perhaps, in order to compensate for this, the body makes more red blood cells. Why? Because red blood cells are the carriers of oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. People who live 15,000 feet up in the Andes in Peru have a polycyth emia, in which, instead of a nor mal 5,000,000 red cells per cubic millimeter of blood, the person has perhaps 7,500,000, the trouble is more serious, and a physician may have to give a drug which will destroy many of the .unneeded cells. Dr. Alvarez hopes his readers will understand that it would be impossible for him to answer requests for information or to attempt to diagnose by mail. (Released by The Register an 4 Tribune Syndicate, 1956.) It's true about the Holly wood star who underwent surgery last week. He wanted a swimming pool shaped kidney.
