o Tuesday, November 27, 1956 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL THIBUN-SEVEN Outside Decorating Can Provide Fun for Family on Holidays It a Christmas the happiest , season of them all so let your home sing out this message to all who pass by. j Decorating the outside of the ! house can provide real family I fun and will say to the world I that here is a family filled with 1 Christmas spirit. . Even the simplest decorating theme ean convey your holiday I greeting. Particularly effective j i a doorway decoration for this , says "Merry Christmas and Wel come" to all who enter. There are limitless possibili ties in holiday-mood doorway decor. Adapt the theme to the style of your entrance-way. For the traditional type home, a formal swag of evergreen boughs hung over the doorway is very effective. This swag can be sparkled with colored Christmas lights or ornaments. Finish this decora tion by centering a large Christ- i mas wreath of glistening holly on the door. I Decorating the door of a con- temporary home calls for a more I modern treatment. I Outlining the door with greens I and lights follows the modern I lines nicely. To do this tack a 12 i inch strip of chicken wire around i the door. Tuck evergreen boughs i into the wire until it is com 1 pletely covered and then place lights in the greens. Owners of Early American homes can call upon all the dec orating themes of a truly old fashioned Christmas for their holiday decor. An oversize candy cane, a red felt stocking holding little gift wrapped boxes, a traditional wreath, tall make-believe candles flanking the doorway, a huge card saying "Merry Christmas" will add a gala Christmas touch to the doorway. For every home, a spray of evergreen boughs fastened to gether with wire and trimmed with ornaments or pine cones and a huge red bow is an easy-to-make door decoration. Nothing creates a bright Christmas mood outdoors like strings of lights hung in ever green trees, outlining the front porch or festooned around win dows and doorway. Windows, too, should come in for their share of cheery Christmas decoration for they will provide two-way enjoyment from the inside and outside! If Nature doesn't provide a white Christmas, try making your own! It's easy with the new liquid plastic snow that can be sprayed on window panes to sim ulate snow piled in the corners. Or use stencils to cut-out Santas, angels, reindeer or other Christ mas motifs and spray with the aerosol can of snow. If your windows boast shut ters, try decorating them with colorful Christmas cut-outs oj angels and stars. So this year plan your out door decorations early and add to the cheeriness of the holiday season with a gaily decorated home that will heighten the happy Christmas mood of aK who cross your threshold. The topmost ornament on a Christmas tree is called a gipfel. Legend has it that bright col ored ornaments, tie candles and the lights of the Christmas trees represent JJie new birth0 and bloom of grong things. Ancient myths tell the stry ;.s of many trees that bloom st Christmas time.. e 2 O In EnglandP gie first weekday followingo Christmas is Boxing Day a legal holiday 'Sn which gifts are psented to the post-0 man and tradesmen who have been of service to a famWy dJ6j ing the year.0 TOMORROW NIGHT in MEDFORD YOUR BEST BETS IN and at ROBINSON BROS.?
