Write plays, young, they will keep you m your old age." Such was the advice of George Bern ard Shaw. I "know I have men tioned this advice before but I keep repeating it with the hope I may do soenething abctut taking it. Anyway, if Mr. Shaw were still around" some of the plays he wrote in his younger years would certainly keep him in his old age. And iit handsome style. As for example, "Pygmalion." Die musical version of which, titled "My Fair Lady," pays the Shaw estate around $3,000 a week. Then there is "Major Barbara" "now showing in New York with an all star .cast in cluding" Charies Laughton, Cor nelia Otis Skinner, Burgess Meredth and Glynis Johns. This play written by Shaw about 50 years ago recently broke the box office record at the Martin Beck theater. I think I will write a play for Leonora Corbett. I have an idea. I'll start tomor row. That's when I start writing all my plays, tomorrow. Tray Queans Where in this country can "be found the waitresses with the highest incomes? Your guess may be that they are the Tray Queens of Las Vegas,- Nev. You could be wrong. The waitresses at the Gaslight club in Chicago take in as high as $15,000 a year. It is practicaly all in tips. Incidentaly, another resident of Laguna Bead is that great song and dance man of the yesteryear Jack Norworth. If you never saw the team of Jack Norworth and Nora Bayes, atop calling yourself a young old timer. ' Asking 'Queries from clients. Qv Who is the richest living actress or ex-actress? A. Mary Pickiord is generally considered to rate that spot. However, Hope Hampton may have, by inheritance, more money than Mary. Other very wealthy living actresses are Paulette Goddard, Greta Garbo and Janet Gaynor. Among The Married Next to money and mothers-in-law, dancirlg is the cause of more quarrels among the mar ried than anything else. Many years ago Joe Cawthorn intro duce a ditty that became very popular "I can dance with any body but my wife." Not one in a hundred married couples dance well together. The husband is generally blamed. This is freq uently an unjust accusation. All females consider themselves na tural born ballroom dancers. That is an erroneous assumption. There are. as many bad female dancers as males. The great fault among women dancers is that they try to lead. This throws the husband off his stride. He is accused of being awkward. Then the argument starts. So, what otherwise might have been & wonderful evening is ruined. That Cold The common cold is still very common. It is still classed as in curable. It causes the loss of more work hours than any other factor. Strikes not excepted. If the common cold cannot be cur ed it can be prevented. I once went for a period of seven years without a common cold. Diet was an important preventive. Haven't space to detail the diet but will say fried food was avoided. 1 kept out of crowds as much as possible. In the winter I kept the bedroom windows closed. I wore a flannel night coat. My bed was expertly made, covers that were tucked in stayed in. When I finaly did get a cold it was due to carelessness. Inci dentally, I have heard that wear ing a night cap is an aid to cold prevention. I may try it. Am not going to wear an old fashioned nightcap. I will use the beret I bought in Paris.
