Sorority Chapters Hold Rites wmWMM TBree chapters jf Beta-Sigma Phi sorority held pledge cere monies in recent days. Beta Upsilon held its cere mony at the home of Mrs. M. H. Hogan, Siskiyou court. Mrs. Howard B!w conducted the service, with Mrs. Wayne Harris and Mrs. Arthur Brooks assist ing. Pledged were Mrs. Don Atfams, .Mrs. Lawrence S. Hor ton, Mrs. Dick Knoll, Mrs. Rae Bostwick, Mrs. Jack McCarey and Mrs. Marsh Ramsby. Mrs. Harri will take charge of train ing the pledge class. Bel Upsilon will meet Tues day, November 20, at the home of Mrs. DeVon Wray, 1908 Strat ford way. The annual pledge ritual of Alpha Beta chapter was held at the home of Mrs. O. A. Eden, 2H Cenessee street, November 8. During the formal ceremony each girl was welcomed into the sorority and received a pledge pin. After the ritual the new pledges were escorted to Mon Desir inn where dinner was served. LEAST 3 GLASSES OF MILK A DAY! f MILK producers league Church Rites In Seattle Wed Couple University of Washington Congregational church was the scene of the wedding of Miss Shirley Elaine Byrd to Law rence Dean LaFollette on Satur day, November 3. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Byrd, 924 East Jackson street, Medfrd, and Mr. LaFollette is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. LaFollette, Seattle. He is the grandson of the late Dr. E. B. Pickel, who was a well known early-day physician in Medford, and of Mrs. J. J. Holt, who also made her home in this city. The bride, a commercial art major at the university, de signed her own wedding dress of embroidered Swiss tulle. It was fashioned with a long bodice and chapel train. Her matching headpiece was a tiny beaded crown of pearls and tulle with a imported silk illusion fingertip veil. She carried her white prayer book with orchids and stephanotis. The bridal attendants were gowned alike in crystalette of tones of pink, fashioned princess style and ballerina length. They wore matching satin slippers and gloves, and their headpieces were tiny pink velvet flowers with pearl centers. Miss Genelle Elms, Aberdeen, the maid of honor, wore deep pink. Miss JoAnn LaFollette, sister of the bridegroom, Miss Patricia War ington, Honolulu, T.H., and Miss Patricia Steere, Whittier, Calif., were bridesmaids. All carried white prayer books with pink roses. "The Angels are Lighting God's Little Candles" was played in chimes as the Misses Sue Allison, Marilee Powell, Judith Nelson, and Patricia Irv ing lighted the 130 pink candles. They wore rose pink dresses and their tapers held sprays of roses. Flower girls were Jean and Joan Hirsch, small twin cousins of the bride. They wore long dresses of pa,le pink crystalette trimmed in lace. Lee LaFollette was his broth er's best man while the bride's younger brother, Richard Byrd, Medford, was junior best man Ushers were Carl Weilkert, El mer Rogers, and Robert Byra, brother of the bride. Thomas Go leeke, Seattle, sang the wedding songs, including the "Chi Omega Sweetheart Song". The double ring ceremony was read by Dr. Oscar M. Adam from Port Angeles, Wash., and Dr. Lawrence J. Mitchell, Seattle. Mrs. Byrd wore a toast brown crystalette princess style dress and pink accessories for her daughter's wedding. Mrs. LaFol lette wore a blue grey dress with a matching embroidered jacket and black accessories. Both wore pink orchid corsages A reception for 300 guests was held at the church. The bride, a University of Washington senior, is a member of Chi Omega sorority and Uni versity Rally Girls. Mr. LaFol lette will be graduated from the university this December and at that time will be commissioned in the U.S. Army. He is a mem ber of Lambda Chi Alpha fra ternity and Oval club. The bride spent the past sum mer in Medford with her par ents and was employed at Leon's store. Mr. and Mrs. Byrd and their sons were all in Seattle for the wedding. M. Paulazzo. Co-hostesses for the evening were Mrs. James Tengesdal, Mrs. Richard Henselman, Mrs. Larry Allen and Mrs. James Chapman. Mrs. M. E. Sleeter, director of the chapter was also present at the ceremony. Next meeting of the sorority will be held November 27 at the home of Mrs. Tengesdal, 1216 West 8th Street at 8 p.m. Pre-Holiday Show Held by Lady Lions In Central Point Pre-holiday fashions were shown in a holiday setting at the dessert luncheon and style show given by the Central Point Lady Lions November 8 at the Central Point Junior High school. Theme for the show was "Things to Come" and featured fashions and hair styles from Mann's department store. Table decorations were frost ed candles set in pink cedar sprays. Raun James of Manns designed the stage decorations of gold manzanita branches with pink and black leaves and small lights. More than 140 women attend ed the benefit show for the Lions kindergarten and the Sight and Blind Conservation fund. Models included Mrs. C. W. Abbott, Mrs. Don Burelson, Mrs. Clyde Chriss, Mrs. Lee Collins worth, Mrs. Fred Lester, Mrs. Gordon Mekvold, Mrs. C. A. Meyer, Mrs Richard Stratton, Miss Maria Abbott and Miss Sally Elden. Mrs. Wyles Berry was commentator. Others who helped with the luncheon included Mrs. Kath leen Esp, Mrs. Mildred McCarty and Mrs. Donna Doyle of Mann's store; Timonthy Horn, hair, stylist: Jerry Heiken, table fav ors; Mrs. Mary Harsh, cakes; Mrs. C. W. Anhorn, cake dec orations; Norman Carothers and the Crater High music depart ment, music; Warren Holbrook and the Crater High Art depart ment, advertising posters; Crat er High Future Homemakers of America and Mrs. Gayle Per due, serving, Sanford Payne Jr. and C. A. Meyer, principal of Central Point Junior High school photographers; organ music was by the Music Mart, and prizes were furnished by John Cupp Sunday, November 18, 1938 MEDFORD (OREGON ftATL TRIBUNE NINE Initiation Held By Medford BPW Members of Medford Business and Professional Women's club met Thursday evening in the Fireplace room at Tally-Ho for dinner and initiation ceremonies for new members. The table was decorated with an arrangement of driftwood and cotoneaster berries and green ery. This was in charge of the membership committee. Mrs. Ruth Simmon was chairman, Mrs. Harriet Watson, co-chairman and Mrs. Elen Lynner, Mrs. Nellie Wall and Mrs. Nell Faulk ner assisted. Initiation ceremonies were in charge of the emblem committee with Mrs. Verna Thatcher, chair man, Mrs. Frances Grant, co chairman, Mrs. Beulah Nathan, Miss Lucille Lenox, and Miss Viola Dietrich. Candidates initiated were Mrs. Nell Faulkner, Mrs. Sally Puhl, Mrs. Margaret Glaze, Mrs. Kay Kohler, Mrs. Clara Mall and Miss Peg Hutchinson.
