Distribution was made Thurs day afternoon by American Legion of material for the an nual poppy-making project. Thelma Williams, hospital rep resentative, and Ruth Freed of Medford were assisted by George Parker and Bill Wolf of the local post. Wednesday evenitig VFW Auxiliary presented a program of musical numbers supplied by the Garnts Pass post. (U.R) Iowa once ranked as second in the nation among states in horse population failed to list one county with enough horses to rank in the top 100 counties, the Bureau of Census reported. In 1920, Iowa had 1.493. 0-12 of the larcest pro-rata member participation in the Labor Day meet. Unidentified Car Strikes Log Truck, Leaves Scene A hit-and-run vehicle Friday struck the left front wheel of a log truck, broke the tie rod and sent the truck three feet down a bank and into a field near the Jacksonville-Central Point high way, state police said. Driver of the log truck was identified as John F. Harden, 48, of 909 Sunset ave., Medford. He told officers he was traveling north on the highway when the car attempted to pass his truck on a curve. Car Leaves Scene Harden said the car continued about 25 feet after striking the truck, hit a bank at the side of the highway, then left the scene at high speed. Harden was not injured. His truck, which traveled a consid erable distance into the field, was abandoned temporarily until fog conditions would permit moving it, state police said. The accident occurred at 4:03 p.m. State police issued citations to both drivers involved in an acci dent at 5:10 p.m. Friday on High way 62 at the junction of Ar kansas rd., 18 miles north of Medford. Vehicles Collide According to the officers, both cars were southbound on the highway when the car operated by Charles Edward Jenks, 16, route 1, box 92-K, Eagle Point, made' a wide swing to the left as if preparing to make a left turn. The other car, operated by Jackie William Pech, 21, Lake Creek, attempted to pass Jenks' car on the right and the vehicles collided. Damage to the vehicles was reported minor and there were no personal injuries. Pech was cited for passing at an intersection and Jenks was cited for failure to signal. U.S. Bank Here Gets ABA Service Award The Medford branch of the U. S. National Bank of Portland is among Oregon banks recently receiving American Banking as sociation recognition for service to farmers, according to Allan F. Perry, manager. An A. B. A. agricultural award is presented each year to the state bankers associations where banks have been of notable serv ice to agriculture during the pre ceding year. This is the 27th consecutive year the state's banks have received the award.
