told in no uncertain terms the
law would get them if they
"stripped beyond the limit."
What is the limit? A police
official here Jried to explain:
"They can perform the dance
of the seven veils but they must'
keep the seventh veil on. They
can take away six."
Police are "getting tough"
with these voluptuous artistes
even though they admit "half
the population have turned strip
teasers and the other half flock
to see them."
One luscious stripper was
dragged to court in Ipoh, north
west Malaya recently, and sen
tenced to 10 days in jail without
the option of a fine. Another
clothes-shedding show was stop
ped in Singapore after a run of
two months in three amusement
parks.
The CID chief in Kuala Lum
pur, H. G. Beverley, said Malaya
and Singapore were cooperating
to "clean up" these shows. He
said future licenses would be
granted only under certain con
ditions. The conditions are that the
dancer must not ma"ke indecent
gestures, whether clothed or not.
The "fig leaf" must be of ade
quate size and must not be trans
parent. The upper body can be
left bare, however. They may.be
asked to put up cash bonds to
prevent them stepping over the j
"police limit." i
However, Beverley said there j
is no question of banning the
strip-tease shows.

Vincennes, Ind. (U.P.) Bob
by Gene Shuppard, 21, an AWOL
military policeman, was captured
in a tree Tuesday after he al
legedly fled the scene of a fi
nance company holdup.
Authorities said Shuppard,
absent from Marine MP duty in
San Francisco, was spotted by
Louisville Courier-Journal cor
respondent J. J. Edrington while
a posse of 75 policemen and
sheriff's officers searched the
area.
Police found S620 on Shup
pard, who was accused of rob
bing the People's Finance Of
fice at gunpoint. Amount of the
loot was undetermined.
The robber fled the office on
foot and pulled a gun on a depu
ty sheriff who stopped him near
the city limits. Shuppard finally
was spotted hiding in a tree 10
miles away.
Authorities said Shuppard
would be charged with armed
robbery.
