Don'l "Want LA To the Editor: In regard to a statement by Kir. Reeder in the' Ashland Tidings, I wish to say that I, as, a Tavern Owner, do not know of any punch boards having been operated in the city of Ashland. I was checked by two agents of the Bureau qf Internal Reve nue a short time ago. At that lime they checked the Tax re ceipts and had I had punch boards those men would not have left the premises without being paid their tax. Having met Mr. Reeder on two different occasions I was im pressed by the young man's sin cerity. However, in my opinion, he is being used by a small group of Medford men to further their own selfish gains. If they had their way they would outdo Los Angeles. They would dominate Jackson County and extend the city limits of Medford from the California border to the fringes of Multnomah County. Not car ing to be a citizen of Medford, I deeply resent this move. I have always received cour teous treatment from the County Court, the District Attorney's of fice, the Sheriff's office, the County Clerk, etc., and I would like to see it remain that way. A. C. Selby fftr Mayor Committee GRANDVIEW-LONE PINE Many Attend PTA Carnival Br LILLIAN KNIGHT Lone Pine-Grandview The Lone Pine PTA carnival held Saturday, Oct. 27 in the school gymnasium was successful, al though the amount of money taken in did not equal that taken in in 1955, according to PTA officers. Sue Jahn, sixth grade candi date, was crowned queen of the carnival by Lee Merriman, prin cipal of the school. Games wre enjoyed by the grownups as well as the young sters! Among the various awards given were: the Lazy Susan, Mrs. Joseph Miller; wrist watch, Wil bur Fish; music stand, Mrs. Archie West; cooler. Mrs. Loyd Arnold; carving set with match ing steak knives, George Paul; and the front sight for a gun, John Grebb. The grand prize of a dishwasher was awarded Mrs.' Boyce Kellogg of N. River side ave in Medford. Mrs. Harold Geigle is the new secretary of Aunt Mary's Birth day club. Mrs. Wallace Nyland er having resigned a few weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Archibald are new grandparents. A baby boy, James Scott, was b.orn to Mr. and Mrs.. James Archibald, now of Crescent City,. Calif., Oct. 25. This is their first child. Phyllis Archibald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Archibald, left Friday, Nov. 2, for a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morse and son, Eugene, at Nam pa, Idaho. Harper, who spent three years in the paratroopers, eight months of which were in Munich, Germany, with the 11th Air borne div., received his dis charge Oct. 11. From here they will go to Santiago, Calif., for I a visit with his grandmother. ! They win then go to Eugene, where he will enter the Uni versity of Oreson.
