Mike Mansfield (D-Mont.) made a one-day visit to Oregon and spoke last night at Albany. Earlier he criticized administra tion foreign policy and said he believed President Eisenhower and Secretary of State John Fos ter Dulles were "caught com pletely by surprise" by the Pol ish and Hungarian developments and the decision of Great Britain and France to attack Egypt." Meanwhile, both Democratic and Republican Multnomah county party chairman wired Sen. Albert Gore asking a Sen ate investigation of alleged elec tion frauds. Ken Rinke, Democratic chair man, complained that some busi ness firms and individuals were sending letters to registered Democrats to their addresses listed in the poll books. If the letter is returned, Rinke said Republicans hope to show that the person would be voting ille gally. In his telegram to Gore, Hinke said "Evidence we now have . . . indicates certain busi nesses, corporations and individ uals are spending tremendous sums of money in a concealed effort, -our estimate $50,000, to affect the outcome of the elec tion. Kefauver Raps Administration On Unemployment En Route with Kefauver U.PJ Sen. Estes Kefauver charged to day that the Eisenhower admin istration had turned its back on solemn promises to aid areas dis tressed by unemployment. The Democratic vice presiden tial nominee concentrated his attack on western Pennsylvania where unemployment is a seri ous issue in many localities. Bill Said Opposed In a speech prepared for de livery at Sharon, Pa., the Ten nessee senator said the Eisen hower administration had op posed a Democratic - sponsored bill to provide federal relief for distressed areas. The opposition came despite the President's promise four years ago that he would "at the least sign of de pression, marshal all the powers of the federal government to fight it," he charged. Kefauver, jusgling his sched ule constantly, flew into Youngs town, Ohio, early today after rigorous campaigning in Massa chusetts and Rhode Island on Thursday. His plane fought turbulent weather on a flight from Provi dence, R.I., but landed safely at Youngstown where he scheduled two speeches before driving into western Pennsylvania. Dulles Gets Laugh On Slip of Tongue United Nations, N.Y. CU.P.) Secretary of Stats John Foster Dulles' tongue slipped somewhat and gained him a bellylaugh in the U.N. General Assembly's marathon debate Thursday night. Dulles referred to an Ameri can cease fire resolution "which was vetoed in the Security Coun cil by the Sov " He caught himself and went on, "by Great Britain and France." Dulles and the Russian dele gation joined in the general laughter and the secretary of state apologized for "that near slip of the tongue." Russia has used its Security Council veto 78 times.
