i Leo Rejects Tribe Offer To Glen'dale Hollywood u.R) Cleve land General Manager Hank Greenberg still was in the mar ket today for a new baseball manager for the Indians. Green berg had tried to convince Leo Durocher to take the job. but the former Dodger and Giant manager apparently refused the pest. Durocher, who retired from baseball to become a radio-television executive, disclosed Tues day night he had met with "my old friend Hank," and discussed the Cleveland manager's job. Durocher said any details of the meeting would have to come from Greenberg. No Foreseeable Chang But the onetime pennant win ning manager declared, "I'm free to say there is no foreseeable change in my present plans." The meeting between Duroch er and Greenberg reportedly took place Tuesday afternoon. Greenberg. who arrived in Los Angeles Monday, could not be reached at his hotel for com ment. Durocher, in the wake of sev eral shakeups in Major League clubs, had announced earlier he wasn't interested in returning to baseball unless given an in terest in the club he would manage. Housing Slated On Ebbets Field New York (U.R) Ebbets Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers since 1913, will be con verted into a middle income hou sing development but not for a few years. The Dodgers sold the ball park to real estate investor Mar vin Kratter Tuesday but pro tected themselves by retaining an option to play at Ebbets field through 1961 if plans for a new park fail to work out. The exact purchase price was not announced but it was believ ed it was upward of $2 million.
