Night Burglars Enter Bulk Oil Plant Last Burglars successfully unlocked a safe containing about $9,000 at the Richfield Oil bulk plant on South Pacific highway last night, but failed to open the door, sheriff's deputies reported. Officials at the plant told dep uties the burglary occurred be tween 5 p.m. Monday and 7:45 a.m. today. The 800-pound safe had been moved from the office to an adjacent warehouse. Deputies said a door to the warehouse had been forced open. News About Servicemen Navy Reserve Division Gets 'Third Best' Rating Naval Reserve Division 13-5, Medford, has been rated the "third best" out of 149 electronic divisions in the nation, accord ing to the 13th Naval district headquarters .in Seattle. Labor Never Fared Better Than Under Ike, Mitchell Says Newark, N.J. (U.R) Secre tary of Labor James P. Mitchell said today American workers have fared better under Presi dent Eisenhower "than any oth er president in history." Mitchell, in a speech prepared for delivery to the Newark Ro tary Club, said the worker, "whether he belongs to a union or not," must Ask himself at the polling booth how he prospered in the past four years. Statements Repeated "On the basis of fact and rec ord," Mitchell said, "the answer can only be: better than under any other President in history. Mitchell repeated statements made Monday night at a rally here of Citizens for Eisenhower that "the working man not only makes more money, but his wages buy more than ever be cause i n f I a t io n has been checked." Mitchell said that "to the working people of America, the Eisenhower administration has meant more than prosperity. It has meant unprecedented under standing between labor and man agement. It has meant planning for the future. It has meant peace in the world." Bill Passage Achieved He recalled that when Repub licans controlled the 83rd Con gress, "Mr. Eisenhower recom mended and achieved passage of highly important labor and so cial bills." On the other hand, he' said, the Democratic-controlled 84th Congress "gave the President's proposals for labor legislation a cold reception." (U.R) The sheriff's office said Mon day night it issued an all-points bulletin for the two remaining fugitives from Washoe County jail in Reno. Six o the eight inmates who escaped Sunday before dawn by digging through a wall with shower pipe fragments were be ing questioned following their arrest here Sunday night. Deputies said the two men still at large', Owen Burkhart. 27, McMinnville, Ore., and Wilbur Montgomery, 23, Pinedale, Cal., were thought to be responsible for a series of vehicle thefts in California which indicated they were heading south. The bulletin said the two had a .306 rifle with ammunition and were "dangerous." They said a pickup truck be longing to Mrs. Roberta Rhoads, Red Bluff, was the first veh icle believed stolen by the two escapees. The truck later was abandoned in Orland. Calif. An auto stolen in Orland was later found in Willows, where a third vehicle was reported stolen. Six prisoners were caught on Sunday night when Officer Rob ert Williams noticed them near a local feed store. They tried to get away in a stolen car, but were caught by the pursuing lawman. Honduras Junta Seats New Supreme Court Tegucigalpa, Honduras (U.R) The 10-day-old military junta installed a new five-man supreme court Monday. The new justices, chosen from a 15-man panel proposed by the Honduras Bar Association, were Ramon Cruz, Dario Monies, Jes us Zacapa, Rogelio Martinez Au gustinus and Horacio Moya Po-sas. Hunt Pressed for Abducted Negro Wildwood, Fla. (U.R) Three special state investigators today joined the search for a Negro who was abducted from jail and feared lynched for allegedly insulting a white schoolteacher. A promise by Gov. Leroy Col lins Monday that the case "can not and will, be not unsolved" was followed quickly by the ar rival of help from the state cap ital. Sheriff . M. H. Bowman said after two days of investigation, "we have found nothing for sure at all." The Negro, Jesse Woods, 39, vanished from Wildwood's tiny unguarded jail early Sunday, following his arreslj on a drurtk and disorderly charge. He al legedly called out, "Hello baby" to the white woman, McArthur W)ods, 71, father of the missing Negro, said on his return Monday from protec tive custody at Ocala, Fla., that the family had received no word from his son. "I believe they killed him," the elder man said on reaching his shack in a Negro settlement four miles from Wildwood. Knowland Shocked By Troop Threat Sacramento U.R) Sen. Wil liam F. Knowland (R.-Calif.) Senate minority leader, said to day the threat by Great Britain and France to occupy Egyptian territory is a "shocking proposal which the conscience of the world will not approve." Knowland, shown United Press dispatches of the British French ultimatum, issued a for mal statement in which he said: j "If the reports are true that a j 12-hour ultimatum has been ' served on Egypt by the govern- ments of Great Britain and : France calling for occupation of j Egyptian territory by troops of those two countries, it is a shock ing proposal which the con science of the world will not 1 approve. "When the U.N. Security coun cil meets today, this proposed military action of Great Britain and France should be brought before that body. "International law and order, if it is to be effective, must ap ply to big powers and not just small ones," he added. "The American people will not sup port a doctrine that 'might makes right." " State Snow Crews In Central Oregon Salem (U.R) State Highway department officials today mov ed equipment and personnel to battle heavy snow conditions along main routes in south-central Oregon around Chemult and Chiloquin. The department's morning re port advised motorists that chains were required for travel at Government Camp. Warm Springs junction and McKenzie pass. Highway officials said that chains should be carried at Wil lamette pass and Tollgate. Seven inches of new snow wai reported at Government Camp with two inches at Warm Springs junction Other new snow depths: Santiam pass, 12 inches: McKenzie pass, 14 inches; Willamette pass, 12 inches; Che mult, 18 inches.
