Now that I am 12 and more intelligent, I am on your side." Another child from New York hand-sticked some "napcens" (napkins) "so it do not tear, and I hope you become 'presedent'. The munny (money) is to you." Three pennies were enclosed. The candidate acknowledged the gift. One small girl wrote to the gentleman from Illinois and said all she wanted to say was "I love you even mpre than ol' Elvis Presley! The Eisenhower camp has some equally interesting intelli gence. There are a lot of "I like" memos. Dr. Mann isn't in any trouble with his Uncle Sam. It's a matter of age something our uncle has little respect for a good part of the time, particu larly when ability is concerned. It's the law of retirement. Margaret Moran of the United Mine Workers Union Journal here proposes a menu for people who don't have much time to cook on election day. "It's easy on the cook and no question as to the family's vote on that." 1,368 Cattle Sold At Feeder Sale A total of $119,366, a record amount for this area, was re ceived for 1.368 head of cattle at the first feeder cattle sale of the year Friday, Oct. 26, at Mid way auction yard. The majority of the cattle sold went to the feedlots In southern California at prices about aver age with other markets, accord ing to W. J. (Bill) Bray, auc tioneer. The next feeder cattle sale will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Midway under sponsorship of the Rogue Valley Cattle men's association. October 30, 1956 Radiation Danger Being Withheld, Kefauver Claims With Kefauver in Illinois U.R) Sen. Estes Kefauver charged to day the Eisenhower administra tion was trying to withhold in formation on the dangers of ra diation from the public. "They, have tried to suppress and hold back the disturbing re ports that have come in from various medical laboratories," Kefauver said. However, in remarks pre pared for a University Xf Illinois campus audience at Champaign, Kefauver did not repeat his statement made Monday in Ohio that he personally favors unilat eral action by the United States on stopping hydrogen bomb tests first before seeking internation al agreements to ban them per manently. Kefauver's one day swing through Illinois will take him to Champaign, Decatur, Blooming ton and Peoria. He flies tonight to Battle Creek, Mich. The Democratic vice presiden tial nominee ran into a noisy but good - natured controversy when he landed at midnight in Champaign. An enthusiastic group of supporters had to in terrupt his impromptu airport speech to drown out a small but determined band of "I Like Ike" students. Proposal Defended . Kefauver abandoned his folk sy manner for the formal speech at the university. He defended at length Democratic presidential nominee Adlai E. Stevenson's proposal that the United States seek international agreements to end further H-bomb tests be cause of the harmful effects on future humanity. Nixon Keeps Close Touch With Crisis In Middle East En Route with Nixon U.R) Vice President Richard M. Nixon kept in close touch with Wash ington today on the crisis trig gered by Israel's attack on Egypt. ' A campaign aide said as of now there has been no change in Nixon's campaign plans in California as a result of the criti cal Middle East situation. Fully Informed Nixon's aide said that the vice president is being kept fully in formed of developments. Nixon talked for 30 minutes by phone Monday to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. So far, Nixon has made no public mention of the situation in speeches or otherwise. He will bring his windup cam paign for California's 32 elec toral votes to a close tonight with a speech at San Diego. He flies there after a whirlwind mo torcade tour of the Los Angeles area with speeches at Arcadia, Riverside, Santa Ana and Long Beach. Following the San Diego rally. Morse Says McKay Endorsed by FDR s Son By UNITED PRESS Oregon's political stage was a whirlwind of activity today but it will be hard pressed to live up to the performances of the candi dates yesterday. Sen. Wayne Morse made his day a two-state affair, flying to San Francisco where he said that the United States is "well on the way" to developing a new weapon "so superior to the hy drogen bomb that it compares to the H-bomb the way the H-bomb compares to the A-bomb." He then was back in Oregon in time j to speak in Milwaukie last j night. ! Highlight of his opponent Douglas McKay's day, was a i noon speech before the Portland j Chamber of Commerce, and a j rousing endorsement last night ; from the son of a former Demo- ' cratic president. FDR's Son for Ike ' John Roosevelt, son of the late president, spoke twice in Port-; land yesterday in behalf of President Eisenhower. "If you like Ike, you ought to give him a senator he can work with," Roosevelt said, then add ed, "to put it another way, give him a senator who can work, not just talk." In his address at Milwaukie last night, Morse called for a spe cial session of Congres and a special meeting of the United Nations general assembly to deal with the Egypt-Israeli crisis. He told a television audience and a meeting in Milwaukie that "the Congress should be on tap to be of immediate service to the : government in case the crisis threatens a third world war." Cobalt Bomb Mentioned .In his San Francisco address, Morse declined to elaborate on his comments regarding the new weapon and refused to identify it as a cobalt bomb.. His state ment appeared to challenge that of Defense Secretary Charles E. j Wilson who Sunday said the i United States had no plans to develop a cobalt bomb. McKay told the Portland Chamber of Commerce that "straw dummies that were sup- I posed to frighten us into accept- ing the philosophy of big gov- ' ernment" are being used by the opposition. The Bill of Rights prohibits denial of bail or excessive bail except on charges of murder or treason. Nunley frequently recommends and insists upon excessive bail i-iid has even attempted to discourage persons from posting bail when they desired to do so. 4. The Bill of Rights provides that no person be compelled to testify against himself. , Nunley contrives to get a complete written statement from every defendant, incriminating himself.
