Jurn and Sons bid $399,900, : followed by Beede construction . company, Portland, $399,980 and Richard Martin company, Oswe ; go, $421,229. ; However, the Jurn bid was ; approximately $76,000 above : the $323,000 available for basic construction. The legislature ap ' propriated $412,000 for the proj ect which included $52,000 for furnishings. Architects fees must also come out of construction money. Board of control Secretary William Ryan said the board would decide within the next 30 days if additional money can be raised for the project. ""Jj V-" SSFl zx-l-tb, f&A Chamber, Grange Breakfast Will Be In Phoenix Tuesday The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce agricultural com mittee, in cooperation with the Phoenix Grange, will hold a Town and Country breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Phoenix Grange hall. The feature is another in a series of events the agricultural committee has arranged to fur ther the Chember's policy of be coming better acquainted and to point up the fact that there are many problems of "town and country" that are of common interest and importance. The Dairy tour in June wasj the first in this series of agri cultural events. The Town and Country break fast will be served by Grange wives in the Grange hall decor ated in a harvest theme of corn stocks and pumpkins. The Po mona Grange and the 15 sub ordinate Granges of Jackson county will participate in the breakfast. The Agricultural committee will take a brief program to the breakfast including Frank Van Dyke, attorney who will talk briefly on "taxation"; Chet Hubbard, Medford merchant will peak on "highways and roads"; Dr. .Elmo Stevenson, president of Southern Oregon college will discuss the "Talent project" and Otto Ewaldson, president of the Chamber, will outline other Chamber activities. Mel Lattie, host master will respond for agriculture and the Grange. The board of directors of the Chamber plan to attend as will the Greeters committee, the Roundtable and chairmen of various Chamber committees. Admission will be by ticket only. The more powerful and re styled cars ride on a longer wheelbase but sedans, hardtops and convertibles actually are one-fifth of an inch shorter in overall length. Plymouth President J. P. Mansfield said the '57 cars, which go on display in dealer showrooms across the country next Tuesday, are three years ahead of schedule in design. "The car we are about to in troduce has the style and fea tures of the car we thought, only a few years ago, as possible for about 1960," he said. "We have moved faster than we had hoped. The public has shown an eagerness to accept dramatic change." While the length has changed little, the new Plymouths are as much as five inches lower. Reith, Ford Motor Co. vice president and Mercury gen eral manager, said the 1957 cars "represent one of the most ex tensive model changes" in auto motive history. The new Mercury's 'dream car' styling is based on the XM Turnpike Cruiser an experi mental model which was in troduced last January and has won nationwide approval on its coast-to-coast tour this year," he said.
