Marie Hatfield, Salem, candi date for the state job, pledged his record as being one of "al ways looking toward the long objectives, not just speeding the immediate problem of govern ment, with no planning nor con sideration of human rights." Charles O. Porter, Eugene, Democratic candidate for con gress from the fourth district, and student leaders shared the platform. ' Porter complimented Hatfield but deplored the fact that Hat field would have to work with Elmo Smith, "your governor by accident." Presley confirmed to United Press Tuesday night that he re ceived what he took to be a rou tine draft questionnaire from his local board here three weeks ago, but board officials denied they knew anything about it. "I honestly don't know what the questionnaire means," Pres ley said. "I haven't heard any thing since the questionnaire or about when to report for a phys ical. When they want me, I'm ready." Although the 21-year-old Pres ley described the matter as being a routine induction process draft officials suggested the singer may be quietly arranging an en listment. Otherwise, they said, Presley would not have received a questionnaire which they did not know about.
