Machines Giving i Essentials Due To Be Tried Out New York (U.R) Vending machines that will dispense grocery, drug and other house hold essentials during hours when stores are closed will be given a tryout in two new multi-millon-dollar shopping centers, according to builder-owner Sol G. Atlas. In cooperation with several vending machine manufacturers. Atlas' engineers are working out design details for what may be come a standard adjunct in shop ping centers. It is planned to start the auto- matic vending operation with basic necessities. To that end a portion of the units will be re frigerated to handle such items as eggs, butter, milk, cheese and soft drinks. Other units vAll dis pense coffee, tea, bread, cake and breakfast foods. Still other units will stock cigarettes-, cigars, pipe tobacco, toothpaste, aspirin, soap, detergents and cleaning compounds. Two New Centers Atlas, builder cf the huge $30, 000,000 Cross County Center in Yonkers, N. Y., and two other centers in Long Island, believes that the proposed addition of 24-hour-per - day merchandising will be of material assistance in his plans to make his centers of maximum service to the com munities they serve. "We are going to try proto types of these round the clock vending units in our two new centers, at Essex Green in West Orange, N. J., and near Milford, Conn.," Atlas said. "From the experience we gain in these two centers, store tenants will learn what to stock, and, more import ant, they will find out if this method of making merchandise available 'after hours' is a serv ice that the public desires." The first units will, of nece sity, be custom made However, project engineers believe that the experience gained in the first two centers will enable them to design standard units that can be fitted to any size space to re place wall sections that would narmaily be non-profit produc ing. The vending units would be ' serviced from the interior of the stores, by store personnel, thus ensuring full and fresh stocks daily. Tuesday. The sources said Egypt would exert every effort toward suc cess of the forthcoming negoti ations in the basis of the six principles endorsed by the Unit ed Nations Security Council. Egyptians welcomed the So viet veto of the Anglo-French resolution on Suez as heralding final settlement and said the resolution practically put an end to the proposed canal users as sociation plan or any other form of international control of canal navigation. But in New York Britain was reported to have asked the Unit ed State to help get the users association begun at once with out awaiting for committees in London to complete the detailed operational setup.
