Decision Upholding Le
Hells Canyon Aired by
By UNITED PRESS
Decision by the U. S. Court
of Appeals in upholding legality
of Idaho Power company's li
cense for construction of a three
dam development of the Hells
canyon site on the Snake river
drew political attention from
both sides in Oregon today.
Douglas McKay, who is oppos
ing Sen. Wayne L. Morse for the
senate, charged that Morse "de
fied the orderly processes of law
for his own selfish political ad
vantage" and sold Adlai Steven
son a "shoddy bill of goods"
about Hells Canyon.
'Not End of Fight'
Morse termed the court action
"not the end of the fight to pre
serve this macnificent multiple
purpose site for full development."

ance with the law, . and that
Morse's intemperate speeches
are merely defiance of the order
ly processes of the law for his
own selfish political advantage."
Morse said "the case is going
to the Supreme Court . . . and
the people can save Hells Can

Sen. Richard L. Neuberger de

special Republican big interests
that have controlled state gov

Smith has been anti-civil rights,
anti-labor, anti-educational pro

to "start swinging."
Said To Lack Real Issues
The governor said his oppon

By Chiang Kai-shek
Taipeh, Formosa U.R) Gen
eralissimo Chiang Kai-shek call

to overthrow the Peiping Com

last hope of the men who fled
to Formosa on Dec. 7, 1949.
Political and military observ

against the Chinese Reds would
signal a counterattack by the
powerful Nationalist armies to
regain the mainland. But there
was no estimate when and if it
would occur.
An air of semi - permanency
has settled upon Formosa in the
meantime. The Nationalists are
determined to return to China
but the people have been told
they must wait the right mo

seems far away.
Chiang made the appeal in
