Monday, September 24. 1958 LA Teen-Agers Held On Murder Charges East Los Angeles (U.R) A 16-year-old youth was shot to death during a wild auto chase and two other teen-agers were arrested on murder charges Sat urday in a new outbreak of gang warfare in East Los Angeles. Thomas Esparaz. 16, was wounded critically by one of 17 Richards Challenges Kuchel To Debate WHITE PENNY CAMPAIGN Chicago (U.R) A bus driver has been waging a one-man campaign to rid the country of those World War II copperless white pennies issued in 1943. He has collected 29, 000 of the coins and eventually plans to exchange them for "good money." Democratic Candidate Visits Friends, Supporters Here Los Angeles (U.R) Richard Richards, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. Saturday issued a challenge to his Republican op ponent, Sen. Thomas H. Kuchel. for a series of television debates on issues of the day. "Such an exchange of view points in frank and open debates would enable the people of Cali fornia to choose between Repub lican philosophy and my own Democratic program,! Richards said. Richards said that in order to facilitate these TV forums, "My staff will provide the necessary funds for our initial meeting at a time and place of your choos ing." Charles O. Porter.
