Fulbright said Saturday he will ask the Senate Banking committee to consider legislative reorganization of the Federal De posit Insurance Corp. In the wake of the million-dollar check scandal in Illinois. The Arkansas Democrat pre sided Friday as FDIC officials told the committee about some aspects of the Illinois case. The senator was sharply critical of the activties of the agency which insures deposits in more than 13.000 of the nation's banks. Fulbright said disposed Illin ois State Auditor Orville E. Hodges set up a "lucrative deal" for himself and his associates "by using the FDIC for his own purposes." Hodge was a central figure in tiie scandal and is serving a 12 to 15 year sentence for cashing more than SI million worth of spurious state checks or war rants. Fulbright said that "all too often we have to wait until a scandal arises" to make leg islative reforms. But doesn't want the last word. She wants a man who will make decisions and take respon sibility. If you are contemplat ing matrimony, young fellow, keep that in mind. So They Say Libra (Sept. 24-Oct. 23). Males strive to chieve the reputation of being well-dressed men. They usually are well-dressed except for a marked weakness for very fancy neckwear. The man who wrote the poem titled "Give Me a Wild Tie, Brother" was probably born under the sign of Libra. Or so say the stargazers. Practice Bomb Falls Into Family Home Newport, R.I. (U.R) A prac tice bomb fell from a military plane Saturday and caromed through the roof, bedroom and kitchen of a house before ending up in the back yard. There was no explosion and all residents of the house were away. "A lucky thing, too," said Rob ert J. Pingatore. owner of the house. "Normally we'd have been feeding the (two) kids lunch in the kitchen." His wife is a former Boston resident, daughter of Mrs. Ida Barkowski. Police said they believed the plane involved was from Quon set Point Naval Air Station, but officers at Quonset could not confirm this immediately. Pingatore said he and his wife were shopping when the plane zoomed over this seaport town en route to a practice bombing range. The mark 76 bomb be came dislodged and fell on a trajectory into the house and through it. Damage was extensive. Sunday, September 23, 19SS MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THREE Daughter of TV Star Killed in Wreck Van Nuys, Calif. (U.R) San dra J. Hayden, 15 -year -old daughter of television star Jan Clayton, was killed Saturday when she crashed her mother's car into another auto at an in tersection. Police said the star's daugh ter, who had only a driving learner's permit, apparently drove through a stop sign when her car collided with an auto driven by Lloyd Frerer Jr., 19, who was injured. Miss Hayden's father was for mer cowboy star Russell Hay den, who now is a television actor and producer. Her mother now is married to Robert V.'. Lerner, son of the president of a nationwide chain of dress shops. Miss Clayton collapsed when she learned of her daughter's death and was put to bed under sedatives. Highway safety has been one of her leading civic interests. She was awarded a plaque in June for helping to promote highway safety. Miss Clayton, after a success ful career in New York musical comedy, has been equally suc cessful as Tommy Rettig's moth er in the TV series, "Lassie." Poles Facing Trial For Part in Uprising Warsaw, Poland (U.R) Fifty eight persons accused of com mitting various crimes during the June workers' uprising in Poznan will go on trial there next week, it was announced Saturday. Prosecutor General Marian Rybicki, in a statement publish ed by the official news agency Pap, said 96 others among the 323 arrested at the time of the uprising are awaiting trial. He said the number of pris oners "has been reduced consid erably in the course of investiga tions" an apparent indication that the other 169 persons ar rested in June have been re leased. Rybicki emphasized that the persons still in prison are not charged merely with taking part in the "bread and freedom" riots in Poznan, but are accused of specific crimes. Gene Autry Settles $100,000 Damage Suit Davenport, Iowa (U.R) A $100,000 damage suit against cowboy movie star Gene Autry was settled out of court for $30,000 according to three Gales burg, 111., residents making the claim. Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Grone and Mrs. Rose Vestal had filed the suit in Davenport naming seven defendants including Autry for injuries suffered at rodeo last 'J CHRISTIAN ( I SCIENCE J Station KWIN 1400 K.C.
