Injuria Hampr Medford returns to the grid wars better fixed in experience than the Democrats but both clubs will b hurting somewhat from injury or sickness. The Black Tornado counts the return of 23 monogram wearers, a good number of whom saw regular or ?onsfderable service last year. Jefferson has 10 lettermen back, only two or three of whom saw regular action last year and those only on defense. Coach Tom DeSylvia of the Demos had an extensive job of rebuilding to do if Jeff is to re peat as the PIL diadem holder. At Medford mentor Fred Spie gelberg Is concerned with bol stering a number of thin spots in th line-up. The objectives can be accomplished only through game experience- A check of the weights of likely offensive players shows Medford with more overall hert In the line and the barkfield more nearly even with Medford having the extremes in size. The Tornado is heavy at the tackles with good weight at the ends and fair heft throueh the middle. Jeff it a bit heavier in the mid dle than Medford but lighter at the tackles and on the flanks. Brooklyn Likes Delay; Campy Will Be Back; Solons, Tigers Win Practice Shoot Slated Sunday Medford Gun club members will have skeet, IB-yard and handicap shooting practice Sun day. The cat wasn't black enough to bring bad luck to the Redlegs as they wound up beating the Braves in 10 innings, 4-2. By JOHN GRIFFIN The Brooklyn Dodgers defied their "doubleheader jinx" today and said they would gladly play two games anytime just to have Rov Campanella back in the lineup. Ordinarily, the Dodgers would be crying over the rain that washed out Thursday night s game against the New York Giants and forced them to sched ule a twi-night doubleheader for tonight. The Bums are a poor twin bill team, the record book insists. Here are the figures: Brooklyn has played 17 doubleheaderi this year sweep ing five, dropping six, and split ting six a total of 18 games won and 18 lost. That indicates they probably will lose at least one game tonight. But Campy, the National league's "Most Valuable Play er'' last year. Is better than sta tistics, the Dodgers feel. Roy would have missed Thursday night's game because of a bruised right Index finger, and his bat would have been missed against Giant southpaw Johnny Anton elli. But now Campanella wll be able to face Antonelll tonight and catch both games. This could balance out the break given the Milwaukee Braves by an off day Thursday, that en abled slugged Eddie Mathews to rest his injured ankle an extra 24 hours. The Dodgers-Giants fray was the only action scheduled Thurs day involving a pennant con tender in either league. In the only two games played Thursday, the Washington Sen ators scored six runs in the fifth inning to beat the Baltimore Orioles. 7-5. and pitcher Frank Lary of the Detroit Tigers pitched a four-hitter to shut out the Kansas City A's. 6-0. Three Oriole pitchers were battered in the Senator's big inning, which included a three run homer by Jose Valdivelso. Eddie Yost of the Senators set a club record by drawing his 142nd walk of the aeason and pitcher Dean Stone gained the victory, although he allowed 13 of the Orioles' 14 hits. Lary fanned four and did not walk a man. He was backed up by homers by Ray Boone, Bob Wilson, Wayne Belardi, and Charley Maxwell. U.R) Coach Tommy Prothro is pleased with the Oregon State tackles. He nays he thinks that the Beavers "will be considerably stronger" at tackle than last season. John Witte, who is down to 216 pounds from 240 in spring practice, holds down the starting left tackle berth, backed up by converted full back Ernie Zwahlen and Terry Salisbury. Dave Jesmer and Ted Bates are fighting a close battle for right tackle. Jesmer saw a lot of action last year. Bates is up from the freshman squad. Four-Way Battle For Ends at UO Eugene, Ore. U.R) A four way battle for starting end among two rookies and two vet erans Is shaping up at Oregon, according to Assistant Coach Jack Roche. The veterans are Capt. Phil McHugh and J. C. Wheeler. Wheeler, at 200 pounds, is Ore gon's biggest end. Roche said rookies Bruce Brenn and Ron Stover seemed capable of filling the veterans' shoes any time. z 42 384 512 347 551 Eastslde Mkt.
