IXTEErT MEDrORD (OREGON) KATL THTBUWE Thursday, Sapiember I, 1338 Navy Awards Bid For Atomic Plant Washington (U.R- Thp Navy has announced award of a $18 3 million contract to the V'estins house Electric Corp.. Pittsburgh. Pa., to make the atomic power plant for a guided missile light cruiser. It will he the world's first atomic surface vessel. The nu clear propulsion plant is hcina designed and developed by the Atomic Energy Commission in cooperation with the Navy. The cruiser is part of the program. "It will be fitted out with the most advanced arma ment and guided missiles avail able for fleet ue," the Navy said. The Navy previously an nounced that the cruiser will be built by the Quincy. Mass yard of Bethlehem Steel Corp., subject to completion of satis factory contract negotiations. President Laughs At Own Mistake Washington U.R) Pres ident Eisenhower yesterday in advertently referred to the Library of Congress as "the Republican Library." He laughed heartily at his own mistake and commented with a grin that he doubtless would be accused of trying to drag the library into politics. It happened this way: A reporter at his news con ference noted that the Pres ident last week quoted from a upecch by William McKinlcy. He asked where the President had run across the speech. Mr. Eisenhower said he had read an allusion to the speech in a book about the Republican party's history. He said he then sent to the "republican Library for a copy of the whole speech. He quickly corrected this to Library of Congress. j Mrs. Eisenhower Invited to Confab Chicago iU-R) An invitation has been extended to Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower to substi-; tute for Vice President Richard Nixon at the convention of the National Federation of Republi can Women. Nixon was to have attended the reception in' his honor Fri day, but was forced to cancel his appearance by the death o! his father, Frank, Tuesday. Some 2,000 women would greet Mrs. Eisenhower at the reception if she accepts the in vitation. However, Mrs. Carroll D. Kearns, federation president, said some members of the Presi dent's cabinet probably would represent the vice president if Mrs. Eisenhower was unable to attend. Califomian Enters Guilty Plea in Circuit Court Lindon L. Blalock. Richmond. Calif., pleaded guilty to district attorney's information Wednes day morning in circuit court to the charges of obtaining money by false pretenses. Blalock w-as arrested by city police August 11.
