Council Revises
City Building Code
The Medford city council Tues
day night adopted an ordinance
revising the Medford building
code and fire zoning boundaries,
on the recommendation of the
council building committee.
The revision expands fire Zone
1 and 2, leaving the city with
three fire zones. According to
City Manager Robert Duff, fire
Zone 1 will now encompass all
the area of the previous Zones
1 and 2.
Fire Zone 2 will now extend
from Jackson st. north along
Bear creek to McAndrews rd.,
west along McAndrews rd. to
Clark st., east from Clark st. to
Cedar st., and south along Cedar
st. to Jackson st.
. Revised Zone 2 will extend
south from 13th st. along High
way 99 to Stewart ave., west
along Stewart ave. to Grape it.,
and north along Grape st. to
13th st. The remaining areas are
Zone 3, except for two small
areas.
. The revisions to the building
code include empowering prop
er authorities to close public
buildings in case of emergency,
and making fences located along
the front of residential property
a fire hazard.
. Detailed information on the
provisions of the new building
code can be obtained from the
citv manager's office in the city
hall.
New Tea Machine
Shown Resfauranfeurs
. Chicago (U.R) A "teapot"
worth S40.000 was introduced to
representatives of the restaurant
industry at their national con
vention here.
The idea for the giant tea
brewing machine was born when
an Elmo Roper survey of two
years ago discovered that people
who "eat out" drink tea half as
often as they normally do at
home. Reasons given for the
lack of tea enthusiasts were that
the beverage served commer
cially wasrot good, and that tea
is harder to make than other
beverages.
The new machine, developed
by the Batelle Memorial Insti
tute of Columbus, Ohio, elimi-!
nates these difficulties by using I
a concentrate which can be com- j
bined with cold or hot water to
make hot or iced tea of the cor-:
rcct strength. The machine can
serve eight glasses a minute to
thirsty customers.
