(U.PJ An al most complete but badly crush ed skeleton has been uncovered at nearby Sprakers, 46 inches below the surface. Edward J. Shehan, Montgom ery county archivist, said the skeleton was found in a rock lined grave with his knees drawn up to its chest in what is known as a "bundle burial." Sheehan said the grave is ap parently that of an Indian "of a very early date." Dr. William A. Ritchie, state archeologist at Albany, may be asked to determine the age of the bones by a carbon 14 test. McLEOD Argentine Residents Leave By CAROLINE L. HARDING McLeod Mr. and Mrs. Carl Finstrom, who have been vaca tioning at "Rogue Woods" on Rogue River, have left for their home in Argentina. On Aug. 20 they drove to Los Angeles via the Oregon coast, where they will visit a daughter and then to New York where they will sail Sept. 20 for their Hurlinghens, Argentina, which is a subrub of Buenos Aires. Finstrom is superintendent of the Moore-McCormick Steam ship line there. He will retire in two years and then will return to their home on Rogue River above McLeod. Recently 56 of the Thurston clan gathered, in Beaverton, Ore. for a family reunion. Mrs. L. L. Conger attended as she is the former Alice Thurston. Mrs. Arthur Hume and Mrs. Arthur Greenlea attended the Shakespearean festival at Ash land Aug. 17 for the perform ance of "Richard III." Mrs. Stella Hale of Medford is the house guest of her daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hedgepath. Mr. and Mrs. .Claud Garrett are the parents of a' boy born Aug. 17. Mrs. Garrett is the former Elva Carlton. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin LanEe and family of Santa Rosa, Calif., have been the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Stone. Mrs. Lange is the daughter of Mrs. Stone. Mrs. George Jockstein is visit ing relatives in Eureka, Cam. Mrs. Herb Carlton is visiting her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Garrett, Ash land. Mrs. East of Sams Valley is the house guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Richardson. Mrs. Vic Chapman had a din ner party at her home Aug. 15 honoring her son, Dale's 17th birthday. Beside the family Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gillispie and fam ily were also present. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Carlton and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey An derson of San Jose, Calif., camp ed a week at Union creek. Mrs. Marge Martin and Mrs. Pat Ball of Oakland, Calif., are the house guests of Mrs. Hazel Ulrich. Mrs. Arthur Hume, president of Elk-Trail PTA. has called a special meeting Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 1:30 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Arlee Ragsdale. Members and any others interested in PTA work are invited to attend. Mrs. Walter Hillman and her step-son, Don, of Van Nuys, Calif., are the house guests of her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Darrohn. Dr. A. M. Skeffington of St. Louis, Mo. director of education for the Optometric Extension program presided at the lecture sessions of the one day meeting. MedfoTd optometrists attend ing were Drs. Thomas Ander son, Frank Freeburger, August W. Glutch, Clair Vogel, Robert Urie, Bill Thompson and Bob Harland. AH are members of the Southern Oregon Optomer ic Society. In addition, the wives of optometrists, assistants and technicians were invited guests atthe evening dinner meeting. The purpose of Dr. Skeffing- ton's visit was to bring a report on recent advances in the optom etric field and allied sciences and to explain procedural methods. The majority of the lecture sessions were devoted to technical discussion of diagnos ing visual problems and preven tive, remedial measures Dr. Skeffington stressed the ' ad vances in the optometric sci ences during the past 25 years and noted that vision, once con sidered a simple process is now recognized as the most complex of our organism. He pointed out that the work of the optom etrist today is to evaluate a visual stress, regardless of its origin, and to make adjustments for it. Prevention of Trouble Even more important. Dr. Skeffington said, optometry is interested in the problem of the prevention of visual disadvant ages of children caused by the stress situations of the schools demands and the pressures of todays culture.
