Baby Born Mr. and Mrs. Robert de Dauchamp are the parents of a boy weighing 1H pounds born in Salt Lake City. Mrs. de Dauchamp is the former Lucille Seiler of Medford. This is their second child. A CPA certificate is awarded as a result of having passed an ex amination and acquired two years of experience. Business Names R. A. Brew- er and E. J. Link have retired the assumed business name of Selco Refrigeration company. Collier and Jane Buffington have assumed the business name of C Bench Ranch, and Jesse E. Remick and Charles R. Means have assumed the business name of Diamond Home Improvement company, according to records in the office of the county clerk and recorder: Purchases Bonds The Med ford city council last Tuesday night sold ' Medford airport bonds, totaling $75,000, to the First National bank of Portland for 3' per cent interest from 1958 to 1981, and 3'i per cent from 1962 to 1967 for an inter est of 3.294. Total interest to be paid is about $16,000. This in formation appeared in a city council story yesterday but the name of the First National bank of Portland was ommitted. Shed Burns A shed be longing to Harry Rubenstein be tween Fourth and Sixth sts. and Oakdale ave., and Orange st. burned about 7 pm. yesterday, firemen reported. They said the structure was a total loss. Cause of the blaze was not listed. The alarm was turned jn as a tree fire. Two trucks were dispatch ed. Firemen used a smoke ejec tor at the Wes Ragsdale home, 1214 West 14th st. about 9 p.m. yesterday. A pot left on a stove resulted in considerable smoke in the house, according to fire men. Visitors Here Mrs. Cather ine Jay, Bend, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hughes,' Chicago, were in Medford this week visiting Mrs. Jay's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wright, 20 North Orange st., and her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Joe Barrett, 148 Grape st. Today they were tG go to Bend where they will visit with another son and daughter-in-law of Mrs. Jay's, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sander. The Hughes will leave from there for home. 8 Building Permits Issued in 3 Days Building permits totaling $69, 000 have been issued in three days from the city building in spector's office. These permits are for seven new residences and one for an addition to a residence. Permits and their values were issued to the following persons: W. Franciscans lining the street Obituaries CAROLYN HEDGES Services for Carolyn Mae Hedges, 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin D. Hedges, of Route 2, Box 248, Medford, who was accidently electrocuted Tuesday, will be held in Conger- Morris chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Clynton Crisman of the Friends church will officiate. Committal will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Carolyn Mae was born May 26, 1953, in Medford, and had lived here all her life. Survivors include, in addition to her parents, two brothers, Teddy and Dale; a sister. Debo rah; and her grindparents. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hedges.. Sioux City, la.: and Mr. and Mrs. George Gunn,, Medford, and several aunts and uncles. . OLAF SEVERSON Olaf T. Severson, 69, of 837 West 2nd street, died this morn ing in a local hospital. Conger- Morris funeral home is in charge of arrangements. WALTER H. STRAUS Walter H. Straus, 49. died In Albany, Calif., Aug. 11, a few days after being injured in a lumber mill accident, It was learned today. Prior to his death, he owned a store in Campton ville, Calif., where his wife, Wilma, and three -year-old daughter, Diane, live. Mr. Straus was born in Buena Vista county, Iowa, March 9, 1907, and moved with his par ents to a ranch in Sams .Valley where' he attended school. After graduating from high school he moved to California where he lived until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and daughter, six brothers, Lewis Straus, Lakeview, Iowa, Gilbert Straus, Iowa City, Iowa, William Straus, Medford, Albert Straus, Sams Valley, Harold Straus, Tal ent, and Arthur Straus, Central Point; two half-brothers, Stanley Straus and Richard Straus, Med ford, and a half-sister. Mrs. Dor othy Stanley, Fort Klamath; a foster brother, Frank M. Straus. Sams Valley, and his step mother. Mrs. Nora Straus, Med ford. His sister, Elsie Straus, a teacher in the valley for many years, died 1;. 1948. Funeral services were held August 16 in Albany with inter ment at the Sunset Cemetery there. Medford Highway Engineer Promoted Salem (U.R) Four promo tions were announced today to fill out top engineering positions in the State Highway depart ment. W. C. Williams, state highway engineer, said the promotions were designed to provide an ade quate engineering staff for the greatly expanded highway pro gram enacted by the federal gov ernment. D. J. Barbee was promoted from urban engineer to assistant construction engineer in Salem. Lloyd P Shaw, resident engineer at Portland, was advanced to urban engineer in Salem. Gerald W. Wimer. senior resi dent engineer at Medford, was advanced to assistant division en gineer at Salem. And Fred B. Klaboe, district maintenance su perintendent at. Bond Set at $1,500 For Des Moines Man Floyd Albert Dale. 31, Des Moines, Iowa, was arraigned, and waived counsel and hearing in district court Monday on charg es of larency in a building. Tbursdar- August 23, 19J8 Sanitary Engineer Takes Federal Post Portland U.R) Curtiss M. Everts Jr., Oregon state sani tary engineer, has been named to head up the organizational phases of the nation's new half billion dollar water pollution control program. Everts was granted a three month leave of absence. His temporary appointment was made by Dr. Leroy E. Burney, surgeon general of the U.S. Pub lic Health Service. Everts will start his job Sept. 1 in Wash ington, D.C. Federal grants of $50 million a year for the next 10 years have been authorized to assist municipalities in construction of necessary sewage treatment works. Oregon is expected to get about $6.4 million in the next decade. Kenneth H. Spies, deputy state sanitary engineer, will take over as acting director until Everts returns. MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIB uTfl FIFTEE1T Johns-Manville Bids High in Rogue Timber Portland (U.R) The Johns Manville Products Corporation was high bidder yesterday over Brooks-Scanlon of Bend lor lodgepole pine timber in the Fremont and Rogue River na tional forests. Johns-Manville bid $1.62 . a cord for 360,000 cords in the Fremont forest and $2.30 a cord for 90,000 cords in the Rogue River forest. The two firms started bidding at $1.50 for the Fremont timber and $2.20 for the Rogue River timber. Johns-Manville has disclosed plans for a Klamath Falls plant to make products from the trees which generally are six to 10 inches in diameter. Truck Crash Kills Man at Klamath Falls Klamath Falls U.R Irving Todd Morris, 63, was killed today about five miles southwest of Klamath Falls when he made a left turn in front of an oncoming truck driven by George Long of Klamath Falls. Estimates showed 496.000 persons working at non-farm jobs in July, about 11,000 mora than the year before. Lumber and logging opera tions picked up slightly during July, but plywood mills report ed 300 fewer workers than in June. Temporary employment in canneries dropped 2.000 to 22,500 during the month, just above last year's figure. Estimates of the number of jobless around the state showed about 16.000 unemployed, down 2,000 from the previous month and 4.200 below last year.
