Ine.1 Speculators are reported as demanding 10 times the box office price for tickets to top Broadway theatrical hits. The prevalence of this type of skull duggery is especially objection able during a period in which New Yorkers are trying to con vince people from other sections that the big town is a great place to spend a summer vacation. The efforts of some of the theatrical producers to eliminate speculat ing are suspiciously weak. How about selling the best seats only at the box office, at regular prices and making them non transferable? The buyer would simply have to put his signature on the ticket to make it non transferable. Horses and Woman ' As to that comparison of male and female," writes a San Franciscan. "Women cry easier but are tougher mentally. Men are more honest in admitting mistakes, apologize easier and much more gracefully. Sisters In Melvindale, Mich., is a drive-in restaurant operated by 11 sisters. It is called "The Elev en Sanzo Sisters' Rest." If that isn't the world's record for sisterly partnership what is? The Sanzo girls have three brothers but they are not in the drive-in partnership. Incidentally, give a thought to the feelings of a girl marrying a fellow with 11 sis ters. Imagine the ordeal of a prospective bride having fixed upon her the critical gaze of 11 future sisters-in-law. Beauty At what national convention are assembled the most beauti ful women? How about that of the "Klipwings"? That is an an nual gathering which brings out quite a bevy of beauties. It is an organization of former United Airlines stewardesses. When they married they were automatical ly retired. They had their "wings clipped." Hence the name Klip wings. Passing By Paul Getty, pioneer oil man. U.R) Two employees have received sub stantial additional awards for ideas that first earned money for them a year ago under Eastman Kodak's suggestion system. Ned Bauer of Rochester re ceived an additional award of $2,000 for an idea which brought him S2.500 in 1955. The sugges tion led to a change in the method of returning unexposed sections of 35 mm. film to cus tomers. Roy Ammering of Spencer port, N. Y., received an addi tional S1.700 (or his suggestion concerning an automatic nega tive release on Kodacolor print ers. Since 1939. Ammering has been awarded $6,696 for his ideas. By BETTY HUTTON Wriften for United Press Hollywood UP.) Elvis Pres ley is like eating olives it's hard to be neutral. Either you're mad for him or mad at him. Me? I'm for him for rock 'n' roll for the whole cool, crazy bit. The people who object to Pres ley are parents. Teenagers who don't like him, and there are thousands, just ignore him and listen to someone else. But the parents get all unhinged. They seem to forget how mad their versions of the Lindy hop or the big apple made their waltz loving parents a few years ago. I've got a personal reason to stand up for the kid of the side burns. Jitterbug Draws Protests It wasn't too long ago that irate and disturbed parents were hoping their children wouldn't copy me. There were letters to editors, heated discussions and angry noises about "America's No. 1 jitterbug." My shrieks and shouts, my gyrations, my at tempts to imitate a whirling dervish with a hotfoot were de plored so long and so loud that I became famous. Now that I'm in a star role I sing like a perfect lady, such as in "Spring Reunion." I'm not predicting that Elvis will ever mellow into a relaxed Crosby type, but time works wonders. Who ever thougth old calliope me would learn there are other ways to attract an audience ex cept by shattering their ear drums. Presley Takes Blame If parents want to worry about' something you suggest they think of poor old Presley. This year's fad is next year's fizzle. If Elvis can survive this fast fad buildup then he deserves to be a star. If he can't, well, he'll be for gotten long before today's teen agers are parents and have kids of their own to worry about. One thing I've learned is that the public responds to a per former who is tuned to the same wave length they're on. Kids are kids, now and forever. They look for something new because it would be unthinkable just to accept the same things their par ents like. They respond to a basic beat in music and when you take away all the fuss and feath ers, that's what rock 'n' roll of fers them. Home Ec Confesis Held in Courthouse Jackson county 4-H club home economics demonstration con tests, which have been in prog ress since Monday, will con clude today in the courthouse auditorium. Girls from all parts of the county have been participating in approximately 90 contests and demonstrations. The events are part of the county 4-H and FFA fair but are being held in advance of the fair because of a full fair schedule, according to Miss Marjorie Hattan, county 4-H agent. The contests and demonstra tions are being held in both cooking, and sewing divisions. Winners will enter the Oregon State fair. Included in today's cooking fetes will be bread, salads, pack ing lunches, desserts, outdoor cookery, freezing and dairy foods preparation. Sewing events include "Just So Girl Sewing Contest" (fringing), "Charmingly Yours Sewing Contest" (blanket stitch) and a special sewing contest spon sored by the Oregon Wool Growers' auxiliary.
