Survival Test
Turns To Reality
Le Havre, France U.R)
Thirteen U.S. airmen went on a
survival test that turned out to
be the real thing Monday. They
were recovering here today
from a stormy eight hours spent
in fragile rubber boats on the
English Channel.
The servicemen set out in two
rubber rafts from a lonely beach
where the U.S. Air Force con
ducts survival courses.
The wind suddenly shifted
and freshened, blowing the rafts
out to sea. By the time rescue
planes reached the area, fog cut
visibility to one mile.
A crew from the 66th Air Res
cue squadron at Manston, Eng
land, spotted the rafts IS miles
from shore eight hours later,
landed the seaplane on the chop
py sea and took all 13 survivors
aboard.
