(InUmUimuU) President To Rest at Monterey Peninsula Following Convention Washington U.R) President Eisenhower and at least two members of his Cabinet will go to California's Monterey Penin sula for four to five days of golf and rest when the Republican National Convention ends in San Francisco. The White House said Wed nesday that the President would stay at the Cypress Point club an the scenic 17-mile drive be tween Monterey and Carmel. With him will be Secretary of Commerce Sinclair Weeks and Secretary of Treasury George Humphrey. Accepts Invitation Mr. Eisenhower decided to stay at Cypress Point at the in vitation of John A. McCone, wealthy Los Angeles builder and a personal friend, acting on behalf of the club's directors. The President is scheduled to arrive in San Francisco in his personal plane Wednesday, Aug. 22, and stay at the St. Francis hotel. The next day he will address the convention to accept the pres idential nomination. Then he will leave for the Cypress Point elub. Secret Service agents lest week inspected the two-story stucco and redwood club and trie surrounding area. They pro nounced it safe. The dub covers 135 acres and IS located among cypress trees at the edge of a beautiful golf course overlooking the ocean. JJearby are Pebble Beach, Del Monte and Peninsula golf cours es to give the President a wide selection of playing sites. Mtroom Remodeled The clubhouse has kitchens and service quarters, a large liv ing room lounge and club din ning room on the ground floor. One of the four guestrooms on the second floor is being remod eled for Mr. Eisenhower. ' U Nu issued a statement as president of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League in which he appealed to Burmese newspapers to refrain from writ ing anything about the occupa tion at the moment that might jeopardize negotiations. He said he met Premier Chou Kn-lai and other Red Chinese leaders on a trip to China and that they "expressed a very keen desire to settle the general problem of the border in a friendly way and to settle it as speedily as possible." Atom Merchant Ship Due Before 1960 Washington U.R The Unit ed States hopes to have the world's first atomic powered merchant ship sailing the seas before 1960. Maritime Administrator Clar ence G. Morse told a news con ference Wednesday he will get together with Chairman Lewis L. Strauss of the Atomic Energy Commission "before the end of this month" to decide what type of ship to build. He said it will be "other than a tanker," pos sibly a "combination passenger and cargo or dry cargo vessel." Morse said the length of time required to complete the vessel will depend on the type of atomic reactor used to power it. Korean Orphans Reach Portland; Holt Stricken Portland (U.PJ Harry Holt, the famed Oregon farmer from Creswell, arrived at Portland International Airport shortly af ter 6 a.m. today with another planeload of Korean orphans. The children arrived in fine shape but Holt was immediately placed under the care of a phys ician. Airline Stewardess Karen Ce darwall of Seattle said the pilot of the plane radioed ahead to Portland to have a physician meet the plane after Holt was stricken on the flight from Hon olulu. It was not known immed iately whether Holt suffered from a heart ailment or from exhaustion. Brought Fiom Korea . The 25 mixed-blood orphans were brought from Holt's or phanages in Korea for adoption by families in Oregon, Washing ton, California, Florida and Can ada. Last year Holt and his wife adopted eight orphans to be raised on their Creswell farm in Lane county. Since then he has personally established or phanages and an extensive res cue operation to find homes for children rejected by Koreans. The youngsters are offspring of American soldiers and Korean mothers. Miss Cedarwall said the flight passed without incident aside from Holt's illness. She said that when asked about the mag nitude of his rescue mission, Holt simply looked up from his diaper changing . and replied, "fools rush in where angels fear to tread." Some of the orphans were met . by adoptive parents in Portland. The others will enjoy a brief rest here before proceed ing to their destinations.
