Four Acres Burns Over
In Fire Near Corvallis
Ccrvallis 0J.P A fire on
private land at Starr creek broke
out Friday at noon and spread
to four acres before being
brought under control. Starr
rreek is about 12 miles south
west of here.
Cause of the blaze was thought
to be logging equipment. Fire
fighters from the Polk-Benton
fire district and loggers in the
area were still on the fire line
last night.
Another fire was reported In
the Lobster valley, south of Al
ea. Friday afternoon, but was
irt thought to be serious.

Thirteen Boy
Along Forest
Thirteen boys and five
men
! returned to Medford

after hiking about 50 miles, boat
ing about 30 miles, and eating
an unknown number of pounds
of dehydrated food during the
week.
They were th members and
leaders of Boy Scout Troop 13
who hiked along the forest serv
ice trail in Josephine county,
following the Rogue river from
near Grave creek to Gold Beach.
The 18 left the First Presbyter
ian church in Medford at 8 a.m.
June 23. transported by car into
I Josephine county to a point
about 15 miles northwest of
Grants Pass. They left the cars
and hit th trail on Hie north
side of Togue river three hours
later.
They walked the trail, some
what damaged by the high river
stages and windfalls, camping
overnight at improved forest
camps.

A similar week long hike is
planned for the troop next year.
Preliminary planning for the
Rogue River trip this June was
done by a planning committee
including Mark Lawrence, a for
ester for the Bureau of Land
Management, and Roy Elmgren,
forester with Elk Lumber com
pany. Through Elk lumber, the
boys were able to obtain dehy-1
drated food from the Bernard
corporation.

Minor products of the farm
woodlands are gaining in im
portance, the forester said. Dur

from Christmas trees, floral

blew itself out Friday against
the Sierra Madre mountains
after causing light damage in
the port of Tampico. Residents
of low areas were evacuated as
