Fire Under Control
Ironsides. Ore. U.R A
forest fire six miles north of
here has burned 80 to 100 acres,
but was thought under control
this morning.
Darrel Fulwider, district range
manager of the Vale-Jordan
grazing office of land manage
ment, said the fire began Satur
day afternoon. It was confined
to five acres until last night
when rising winds spread it to
its present estimate of upwards
of 100 acres.
Most of the area burned was
flash and yellow pine reproduc
tion. Fulwider said that 90 men
from the Bureau of Land Man
agement and volunteers were
fighting the blaze. A camp has
been set up in the area for the
firefighters. Six bulldozers and
two pumpers have been called
into the fight.
Yesterday one of the tractors
caught fire. The seat and wire
in the vehicle were destroyed
before the flames were ex
tinguished.
There have been several fires
in the area this year. Fulwider
said, but this one is the worst
so far.
SoTi'gf Deputy Makes
Surprise Tito Visit
Brioni, Yugoslavia (U.P.)
Mystery today surrounded the
surprise week end visit of So
viet Deputy Premier Anastas
Mikoyan with Marshal Tito.
Mikoyan flew here unexpect
edly Saturday. He left today.
His destination was not an
nounced. There was no indica
tion whether he was returning
to Moscow from his still myster
ious visit to Yugoslavia and to
Hungary.
Mikoyan's visit to Budapest
coincided with the ouster of
Hungarian Communist party
leader Matyas Rakosi, an old
fciemy of Tito's.
A Yugoslav official spokesman
refused to divulge the reasons
for Mikoyan's surprise "private
visit." He refused to confirm or
deny a report that Mikoyan was
making arrangements for an
other visit to Yugoslavia by Pre
mier Nikolai Bulganin and Com
munist party chief Nikita S.
Khrushchev.

Washington (UP' Rep. J.

The Colorado Republican, au

authorizing the project, said he
understood the rules committee
would consider action Tuesday
and "we hope to get it cleared."
The measure, drafted early
this year by the House Interior
committee, has been blocked for
months in the rules committee.
House Democratic leaders now
are pushing to get it out to the
floor.
