For the Summer Period of New Church Superintendent arene soon to be constructed at the comer of Mt. Pitt and Chest nut. Plans were made for the new church over a year ago when the Medford congregation voted to purchase land and to lend fi nancial aid in the establishment of a second church for Medford. During the past year money has been secured through the local church as well as the District Home Mission club for launching the new work. The Rev. LeRoy Harris, for many years an Ore gon pastor and builder of numer ous home mission churches, will supervise the construction of the building. He and his family will reside in Medford during the construction which is to begin within a few weeks. A pastor has been appointed for the new congregation and is expected to arrive soon to aid in the start of the new church. Phoenix Church To Give Sunday School Awards Children having perfect at tendance at the Presbyterian church in Phoenix during the months of July and August will be presented with an award. The plan was decided upon at a metting of Sunday school officers and teachers recently to encour age summer attendance. Absen tee cards will be sent to those children absent for two consecu tive Sundays. At the meeting plans were also formulated for an extensive pro gram to be started in September in the Sunday school regarding attendance, Bible readin'g, me mory work, and visiting. Dr. Clifford Miller, professor of history at Southern Oregon college, will preach at the Phoe nix Presbyterian church during the month of July. The Rev. Er nest Volkman and his family are on vacation in California. Moderator for the past two Sundays has been Mr. .Arthur Griggs, with Mr. Rex Nicbdemus assuming that duty Sunday. July 15 and 22, Mr. John Stewart will preside. Coffee hour will be held fol lowing the morning worship with Mrs. Charles Marrs, Mrs. A. V. Thompson, and Mrs. Bert Stan cliffe, hostesses. The Women's association of the Phoenix Presbyterian church will meet at the church July 19 at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon'will be served wtih Mrs. A. W. Bible School To Start July 23 The Vacation Church school of j the First Methodist church will 1 begin July 23 and last until Au gust 3. Sessions will be held daily, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. A staff of teachers will pro vide leadership for from four years old to children in the sixth grade. There will be three pre school classes and classes for each of the first six grades. Pre-registration will be held at the church Friday, July 20 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Registration is i $1 per child or $2 per family. Registration will continue into the first week of classes. MYF Elects OWeers; Thursday Evening Meetings Open to All Officers were elected in June for the Methodist Youth Fellow ship of the First Methodist church. CHARLES ANDERSON Guest Speaker Church School Begins Monday (or 3 Weeks Vacation church school will open at the Congregational church, Oakwood drive, near Groveland, Monday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m. It will continue for two weeks, running each week day morning from 9:30 until about noon. General superintendent of the school will be Mrs. Richard Travis, who will also have charge of the beginner's depart ment. The two primary classes will be taught by Mrs. Darvl Farnham and Mrs. Paul Morris. The junior class will be conduct ed by Mr. and Mrs. John Mc Camant. Mr. McCamant. a graduate student at Columbia university, is a son of the pastor of the church. He has been employed as a student minister to help with the vacation school, to be a lead er at Camp Adams and to preach during the ministers' vacation in August. All children are wel come at the school. " Sermon Topics Sunday, July 22, the Rev. Thomas McCamant will preach on the Book of Proverbs. This Sunday will be on "Christian Diligence," with "The Wisdom of a Christian" the following Sun day. Both Sunday school and church worship continue at 10 o'clock. Charles Anderson will preach in his home church, the First Methodist, this Sunday, at both 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. Mr. Anderson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson of 218 Winema Way. Mr. Anderson, who received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Willamette university last month, has served as minister for the last two school years in Marquam, Ore. Youth Week Planned At Ashland Church Ashland A week of youth activities is being sponsored in this week by the Ashland Meth odist church. All young people of senior high school age are in vited to attend the different func tions. The week will start with a trip to Mt. Ashland Sunday and an outdoor vesper service. Week night programs Monday through Thursday, will begin at 6:45 p.m. and include service pro jects, discussion of Christian be liefs, fireside sings, a hobo party, talent night, swim and scavenger hunt.
