New York Woman Operates Unique Earring Exchange By VIVIAN SANDE United Presi Correspondent New York UP; You might call Marcelle Dorsay the "ear ring matchmaker of the world," or "the orphaned earring's best friend." Miss Dorsay, a dynamic blonde 1 n v e n t o r-businesswoman, un doubtedly has the largest collec tion of ningle earrings in the world. Twenty thousand of them, in all sizes, shapes, col ors, styles and values. And she's anxious to give them away to anyone who can match them. Miss Dorsay calls her collec tion "The Dorsay Earring Ex change.' It is a unique project devoted to, as Miss Dorsay put it, "presenting earring lovers and losers with matched pairs of ear rings." There an element of chance but no charge for users of the exchange. Owners of single ear rings who want to take the chance of losing their single ear rings simply mail a postcard to the exchange at 2 Columbus Or cle, New York City, asking for the official envelope. Later the orphan earring is sent to the exchange ready for processing. One Out oi Five If there is an earring like it In Miss Dorsay's colorful collec tion, the person who sent the first one gets the pair, the second loses the single earring. "But the loser knows she's made another woman happy,' said Miss Dorsay. If there is no mate on file, the orphan earring is registered and added to Miss Dorsay's col lection to wait for a mate to show up in the mail. Miss Dorsay said single ear rings arrive at the rate of about 30 or 40 a day, from all over this country. Canada, Mexico and Europe. She eventually matches about one out of five. Earrings which aren't matched In a couple of years go to vet erans' organizations or hospitals. Miss Dorsay started her uni que exchange about six years ago when she got to .thinking about how many thousands of duplicate pairs or earrings are worn by women across the coun try, and, by the same token, how many women were losing identi cal earrings. A S50 One Her original collection of sev eral dozen unmatched earrings grew rapidly until her self-designed racks now hold hundreds of similar earrings of all sorts, pearl, rhinstone, coral, crystal, cameo, plain metal, or stone. They're filed by mountings, de sign, stone and color. The most expensive earring Miss Dorsay ever received was a solid gold pendant worth about $50. The least expensive prob ablyly could be bought for 10 cents. The oddest on file at the moment is a dangle earring with a small timepiece in the dangle. Actually Miss Dorsay thought of the earring exchange in the line of business. Former Women Sheriff Now Only Baby-Sitter Oklahoma City (U.R) It's quite a switch from chasing bad men to baby-sitting, but Mrs. Elsie Jack has made the change quite easily. Whenever one of her charges wants to play cops and robbers, Mrs. Jack can speak with au thority because three years ago, at Norman, -she became Okla homa's only woman sheriff. Her venture into law enforcement lasted only seven months, or the remainder of the term of her husband, Jesse, who had died while in office. She said being sheriff really wasn't so difficult. "A woman cannot be a wife for 35 years without knowing something about her husband's job." she explained. "I knew how to take care of children long before I was a law officer." She has five grandchildren. "Baby-sitting is less active than being sheriff, but I still enjoy it," she said. "Children are much , more pleasant than law-breakers."
