(Brainerd photo) Stanford Honors Marilyn Olson Miss Marilyn Olson, a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Ol son, 1430 Euclid avenue, has been granted "honors at en trance" by Stanord university. Miss Olson, a member of the 1956 graduating class of Med- ford High school, will enter Stan ford this fall for her freshman year. According to President Wal lace Sterling, this honor carries no monetary award but is grant ed by the committee on academ ic standing to the top 15 per cent of the entering freshman class. The selection is made on the basis of academic and per sonal records in high school and scores on the college board schol astic aptitude test. Miss Olson, honor high school graduate, was a member of the Torch Honor society, was presi dent last year of International Relations league, and was a mem ber of Phi-Chem club and HECA. Her junior year she was one of the delegates to Girls' State and at graduation was named winner of the American Chemi cal society's award. Conroy Family To Hold Reunion; Dinner Planned Arriving here Tuesday for a reunion will be members of Mrs. R. J. Conroy's family. Com ing are Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ferguson (Catherine Conroy) and children, Gregory, Robert and Sue, from Bellevue, Wash., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Con rov and son, Steve, San Joe, Calif. Mrs. Conroy's second daugh ter. Mrs. Robert Hamilton, makes her home on Grant ave nue and Mrs. Conroy is spend ing several weeks here with the Hamiltons. This will be the first time the family has been together since the daughters and son were married. Wednesday a family dinner will be held at the Hamilton home, with Mr. Hamilton's par ents joining the group for the event. ' Later in the summer Mrs. Conroy, who makes her home in the Bay area in California, will continue north to spend a few weeks with the Fergusons. 'Three Arrive Mr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Gil lispie and son, Steven, have ar rived from Seattle to visit with Mrs. Gillispie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cooper, 528 Ham ilton street, and Mr. Gillispie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Gillispie, Griffin Creek road. From Ohio Mrs. Del Prickett arrived yes terday morning by plane from Chillicothe, Ohio, to visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Scrip ter, 727 West Fourth st. Mrs. Prickett was accompanied by her two children, Becky Ann and Danny Get Together club announces that no meeting will be held Wednesday, since it is a holiday. The group will meet again July 111 at Moose hall for a potluck dinner. 5 ASP1 Miss Kay Hyatt Engaged To Wed Nicholas Smith Mr. and Mrs. Chester D. Hyatt of Grants Pass have announced the engagement of their daugh ter, Kay, to Nicholas D. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne D. Smith of Merriman road, Med ford. Miss Hyatt was graduated from Grants Pass High school in 1953, and was chosen Gladiolus Queen that year. She attended the University of Oregon for two years, where she was affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She is now employed with the Josephine cojinty school unit. Mr. Smith was graduated in June from the University of Ore gon where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. At that same time he was commissioned in the Air Force. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Eitemiller, Charles Perdue Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Eitemiller, 3705 Roberts road, Medford. an nounce the engagement of their daughter. Nancy Carol, to Charles Richard Perdue, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert T. Perdue, Eagle Point. Miss Eitemiller was graduated from Crater -High school and at tended Southern Oregon college in Ashland. Mr. Perdue attended high school in Eagle Point and at present is in the United States Navy. He is stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training cen ter near Chicago where he went following a' recent two-weeks leave spent visiting relatives and friends in Jackson county. No wedding date has been an nounced. Stockton Family Visits Relatives Mrs. Andrew Chinchiallo and three daughters, Monica Ann, Monette and Susie Kay, have ar rived from Stockton, Calif., to visit relatives and are guests in the home- of Mrs. Chinchiallo's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lewell A. Dupray, 921 South Holly street. Mrs. Evelina Lemire, Bell flower, Calif., mother of Mrs. Chinchiallo and Mrs. Dupray, it also here and is a guest in the home of a third daughter, Mrs. Floyd Darland. Ends Visits , Mrs. Margaret Fabrick has re turned to Medford after a sta; in Vancouver, Wash., with he son-in-law and daughter, Mr. ant Mrs. Jay Sly. Main Medford Ceremony At Temple , Weds Pair Miss Eloise Marilyn Mielke became the bride of Marwin Richard Despain in a ceremony held the evening of June 4 at 8:45 o'clock in the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is considered a great privilege by church members to be married in the temple, and permission is granted only after a series of interviews with church officials. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Mielke, Medford, and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Despain, also Medford. After the wedding ceremony, for which the couple wears tem ple robes, the newlyweds and the parents of the bride were served a wedding dinner in the Skylight Room of the Hotel Utah. A reception held June 8 in the reception hall of the Medford Church of Latter Day Saints hon ored the newly married couple. For the reception the bride wore a floor-length gown of white lace with a stand-up princess collar. In her hair she wore wax orange blossoms which were worn by her mother on her wedding day. The parents of both the bride and bridegroom and their broth ers and sisters were in the re ceiving line. Ushers for the re ception were Gerald Mielke, brother of the bride, and Paul Eckel, cousin of the bridegroom. Miss Kay Ferris and Kirt Fiedler provided music for the reception, and Miss Margaret Wasden gave a reading. The hall was decorated with red and yel low roses in white baskets. The bride and bridegroom are both graduates of Medford Sen ior High school, and both attend ed Brigham Young university in Utah. The young couple is now at home at 1100 East Main street. Harriet Johnson Wins Scholarship Central Point Miss Harriet Johnson, student nurse at the school of nursing, University of Oregon Medical school, Port land, has been awarded a state scholarship for tuition for three terms, beginning in September. She also received the nurse's scholarship given by Oregon State Nurses association, Dis trict 4, upon graduation from Crater High school, Central Point, in 1953. Miss Johnson completed five terms of pre-nursing at South ern Oregon college, Ashland. While there, she became a mem ber of Sigma Epsilon Pi, nation al honor society. Since March, 1955, Miss Johnson has been a student nurse at the university school and was recently elected secretary-treasurer of her class. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George J. Johnson have lived in Central Point since 1948. Couple to Wed In July Service Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Cowden, 7515 Crater Lake avenue, an nounce the engagement and ap proaching marriage of their daughter, Laree Grace, to Ro land Albert Peck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Peck, Lake Creek. The wedding date has been set for July 15. Miss Cowden is a graduate of Eagle Point High school. Mr. Peck is employed by the Wallace Ragsdale Logging company. Baker An afternoon ceremony last Sunday, June 24, at First Meth odist church wedded Miss Do lores Ann White to Eddy Hugh Baker of Burney, Calif. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Juanita White, 331 West Sixth street, and the bridegroom's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baker, former Medford residents now living in Burney. Dr. Raymond Balcomb read the service at two-thirty o'clock in the afternoon and Ralph Franklin, uncle of the bride from Etna, Calif., gave his niece in marriage. Pink and white gladiolus in baskets decorated the church, and sprays of pink gladioli mark ed the center aisle of the church sanctuary. Mrs. D. G. MacDougall sang, accompanied by Mrs. Richard Schuchard who also played the wedding marches. The bride's gown, made by her mother, was of French, im ported Chantilly lace fashioned with very full skirt and cascade of lace and tulle ruffles which flowed into a train. The lace pleated yoke was trimmed with lace-covered buttons in scallops. She carried a white orchid en circled with white roses and her short veil was held by a tiara of pearls. Miss Connie White was honor attendant for her sister. ' She wore a ballerina length gown of pink lace over taffeta design ed with low waist and full net skirt with a taffeta bow at the back. She carried pink carna tions, and her hat matched the lace of her gown. Bridesmaids were Miss Bar bara Franklin, cousin of the bride from Etna; Miss Shirley Cooke, cousin of the bridegroom from Etnaand Miss Jackie Bates. Their frocks matched that worn by Miss White and they also car ried pink carnations and wore pink lace hats. Flower girls were Carol and Susan Rosecrans, cousins of the bridegroom from Gold Hill. Their long frocks were of pink net with flowers caught in the ruffles of yoke and with large pink taffeta bows at the back. Their hats were of pink net ruf fles and flowers and they car ried pink baskets filled with petals. Carl Fader, nephew of the bridegroom from Gold Hill, was ringbearer. Candlelighters were Gordon White, brother of the bride, and Fred Baker, cousin of the bridegroom. Ira McDonald served as best man for Mr. Baker and Jack Pool, Arlyn Granger and Calvin McDonald were ushers. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. White wore a frock of pale lavender with white accessories and white orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother wore a white knit dress with pink acces sories and her corsage was also a white orchid. About 100 guests attended the reception which followed in the church parlors. Pink gladiolus and fern encircled the wedding cake and white candles stood at either side. Baskets of white gladiolus and snapdragons com pleted the decorations. Mrs. Dean Smitfl cut the wed ding cake, Mrs. Austin Caldwell poured punch and Miss Nancy Hamilton took charge of the gift table. Mrs. Melvin Fader, sister of the bridegroom, took charge of the guest book. Mr. Baker and his bride made a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe and will be at home in Burney after July 1. Both the bride and bridegroom attended Medford schools. The bride has been em ployed by Acme cleaners and Mr. Baker is with Medford Ma chinery company. Meeting Announced For Gold Star Mothers Gold Star Mothers will hold a meeting at the Jackson county court house auditorium Tues day, July 3 at 2 p.m. Refresh ments will be served by Mrs. Oscar Anderson. Sunday, July 1, 1958 Supper is Given For Mrs. Carlson At River Lodge Brownsboro Mrs. William Carlson was honored at a buffet supper Friday evening given by her aunt, Mrs. Montana Gilhou sen, at Rogue River lodge. Mrs. Carlson leaves soon for Schul thorpe, England, where she will join her husband, Airman Carl son, assigned to duty in Eng land with the United States Air Force. Attending the supper were the guest of honor and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Carlson, Mr., and Mrs. W. C. Mattson Jr., Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Farley, Mr. and Mrs. Don Force, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jefferson, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Messecar and daughters, Jan Gilhousen, Miss Anna Carlson, Miss Sandy Caldwell, Miss Marcia Findley. Charles Wort man, Tom Rigsby, Mrs. Billy Skeeters and son, Bill and Er nest McCune. Mrs.. Carlson has been mak ing her home wtih her mother. Mrs. Skeeters. She will fly from Portland to New York City and leave from there July 5 by TWA Constellation for England. Home Mrs. W. P. Tucker has return ed to her home at 524 West Elev enth street after a stay in Seat tle, Wash., to visit relatives. Mrs. Tucker made the trip by United Airlines.
