Suicide Ends- -Utah
Murder Case
Vernal, Utah (U.R) The
Norma Rodeback case was
closed today with the suicide of
a 23-year-old Vernal service sta
tion attendant after he confessed
killing the pretty high school
girl.
Carl Donnell Dow put a rifle
bullet through his mouth after
trudging onto a desolate hillside
west of Vernal, only a few
miles from the ditch where two
weeks earlier he had dumped
the body of his 17-year-old
victim.
Finding of Dow's body
Wednesday climaxed a hectic
day that brought Utah's most
sensational murder case in re
cent years to a quick close.
In notes left for his wife,
mother of two children and ex
pecting a third, and his father,
young Dow admitted accosting
the Rodeback girl, choking her
and disposing of her body on
June 13. He denied actually
raping ner.
Officers questioned him brief
. ly Tuesday because his car was
similar to one seen where Miss
Rodeback was kidnaped. He
was to have been questioned
again Wednesday but during the
night slipped out, took a rifle,
drove his car to the hills and
walked to the spot where he
took his own life.
