Trumans To Sail For Home Thursday London (U.R) Former President Harry S. Truman clos ed out his sightseeing tour of Europe today. He and Mrs. Truman sail for home Thursday aboard the lin er United States. The former President was guest of honor at a lunch tend ered in his honor by the Wor shipful Company of Fishmong ers, a 1000-year-old lodge in the old walled inner city of London. Most of the businessmen mem bers have nothing to do with iish nowadays but they served it anyhow, despite the fact that Mr. Truman can take it or leave it alone. "They heard I didn't like fish very much," Mr. Truman said. "They told me that by the time lunch if finished I would from now on." Just in case, beefsteak also was on the menu. Mr. Truman did not attend. Women are barred from the Fish mongers' Hall by tradition. Osteopathic Doctors Attending Conference Five Jackson county osteopa thic doctors and their wives are attending the annual northwest convention of osteopathic physi cians and surgeons this week in Yakima, Wash. Major topic ofa discussion at the convention, which started Monday and is scheduled to con clude today, is cancer. Several national cancer specialists will discuss types of malignancies and treatment. Dr. G. A. Dier dorff, Medford, president of the Oregon association, will repre sent the group on the program. Others attending from Jackson county are Dr. and Mrs. G. S. Howard and Dr. and Mrs J. S. Jennings, Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Heatherington. all of Medford, and Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Griffin, Jacksonville. Two Claims Sold; Notices Are Filed Contract or sale of two min ing claims, Mt. Pitt View and Ethel, in the Ashland mining dis trict south of Ashland, was filed this week in the Jackson county recorder's office. H. A. Jepsen has agreed to sell the two claims for S4.000 to B. F. Shultz and I. N. Shultz, according to records. M. R. Bazant, J. F. Clum and I. M. Keser, all of Portland, have filed a location notice for a quartz claim. Virgin No. 1, in the Evans Creek mining dis trict north of Gold Hill. A quartz location notice has been filed by E. S. Roach and Claude H. Poole, both of Ash land, for a claim known as Table Rock. The claim is located in the Table Rock area in the Gold Hill mining district. - Ford M. Converse, Portland, has filed location notices for three quartz claims in the Lick Creek mining district northeast of Brownsboro. The claims are known as Grand Cove No. 7, Grand Cove No. 0 and Tunnel Claim No. 2 Grand Cove. Hood River flj.R) Lolo Pass, northwest route through the Mt. Hood area will be opened for the 1956 season Sunday. Oregon Fescue Growers To Pay Assessment Oregon fine fescue growers will pay an assessment of 0.4 cents a pound for the first time this year which will go into a fund for the advancement of the turf grass seed crop. The Chewings and Red Fes cue commission has announced that forms and instructions for collecting the assessment have been mailed to all licensed seed dealers in the state. Deducted from the grower's return by the dealer, the assess ment will apply to all chewings and red creeping fescue seed sold in the state after July 1, including both 1956 and prior crops. Those selling seed to out-of-state dealers will report and remit directly to the commission. Wednesday. The club made about $22 from the booth, and got third place on the club float. Club members also discussed the prefair which will be held July 7 at the Community club. The Grange women served punch and cookies. Radar Gear Repaired Via Radio by Medford Airman A Medford airman from the 551st airborne early warning and control at Otis Air Force base, Mass., repaired the intri cate radar gear aboard an air craft via radio recently. The aircraft was on station several hundred miles off the Atlantic coast when the radar gear began to malfunction. The aircraft called the base advising that it would be unable to re turn to Otis for repairs or re placement due to a heavy fuel load and requested further in structions. Lt. Frank Trammell, . wing operations center officer, con tacted Airman Thomas Wright, : radar repairman for the 551st wing who was going off duty. ! Wright is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wright, 1857 Minear ! rd., Medford. Wright's instructions for re pairing the radar gear were re layed to personnel aboard the aircraft via high frequency ra dio, and repairs made enabled the aircraft to stay on station and continue its mission of air borne early warning. Wright is a 1953 graduate of Medford High school, and has been in the Air Force about two years. His wife is the former Miss Sharon Tyler of Medford. THREE TIMES ONE Fall River, Mass. Crater Beverage Company Ashland Residence Damaged By Fire Ashland The attic and sec ond floor of a house recently purchased by James A. Boozer at 101 Orange st., Ashland, was damaged by fire yesterday morning. Ashland fire department offi cial! said the fire was caused by defective wiring, and estimated ed damage at S2.000. Most of the damage was caused by amok and water, firemen said. Furnishings and interior . of the floor were water soaked and a large hole chopped in the roof to permit access to the flames. ! Civil Service Jobs Available Announced The civil service commission this week announced vacancies in several positions. Purchasing, procurement and general supply officers, with pay ranging from $5,440 to $6,390, are needed in Washington, Id aho, Oregon and Montana. Other available civil service jobs include tabulating equip ment operator and tabulating machine operator, $2,960 and $3,175 a year; supervisor of tab ulating equipment operation and i tabulating machine operation, $3,415 to $4,525 a year; tabu lation project planner, $3,670 and S4.525 a year, and tabula tion planner, $3,415 to $4,080 year.
