ULARLJ Have you the same name as some outstanding celebrity? Is it a source of irritation, confu sion or embarrassment? Do you ever grow weary of the jests inspired by the similarity? I know of a young woman who is finding the similarity of her name to that of a celebrity some thing of a burden. Her name is Marilyn Monroe. That is her real name. She was born in Kings port, Tenn., but now is a secre tary in Manhattan. You can imagine what she goes through when she gives her name. Get It Right "Get it right," writes a New TONE STATE. - eiior FREE. ttkplw nanreber continued: "How is a child going to ap preciate the seriousness of a gun, a weapon that can take a life, if he is allowed to think of it as a plaything? "Years ago a boy approaching his teens might have been given a real gun but not until he was first taught to treat it with respect, never as a plaything. I believe children should have a healthy fear of death weapons. Killing should never be a game." By E. V. Durling Futures Syndicate. Inc.) Yorker. "Spaghetti is not as so often claimed the national dish of Italy. Natives of northern Italy don't care for spaghetti. Another thing, it is wrong to say all Italian women are short. Most women in northern Italy are on the tall side. It is the females who are from southern Italy, especially Naples, who are short and dumpy." . Horses and Women Does your secretary suffer from that affliction known as "stenographers' hips"? How about your matrimonial mate? Has she a case of hippotitis? That is, a hip bulge that is out of proportion with the rest of her figure? It can be eliminated. In a highly informative article in the Cosmopolitan magazine titled "Have a New Figure by Summer," Dr. George H. Berry man is quoted as stating lawn mowing is very good for hip reduction. So, if your wife has a bit of a bulge about the hips, have her do the lawn mowing. Then you will be proud of the way she looks in a bathing suit. Also, call to your secretary's at tention the advantages of lawn mowing as a hip reducer. If she hasn't a lawn of her own, invite her out to work on yours on her day off. Asking Queries from clients. Q. Has there ever been a boxing cham pion whose real name was Jack Dempsey? Settle this and you can end an argument in our neighborhood pub during which even the bartender has lost his temper. A. There never has been a boxing champion whose real name was Jack or John Demp sey. Real name of Jack Demp- pion, is William Harrison Demp sey. The real name of Jack Dempsey (The Nonpareil), mid dleweight champion, was John Kelly. Among the Married Do you know of an enlisted man who married an officer? As for example, a U.S. Army ser geant who married a WAC lieu tenant? If so how is the couple doing now? Who gives most of the orders? Incidentally, a Brit ish Army corporal who married an Army nurse with the rank of a captain said, in discussing the first part of the romance "I had to call her ma'am but I longed to call her darling." Those Glasses Among the girls who wear glasses whose male attraction has not been handicapped by the necessity of using spectacles is Patrice Wymore, wife of EitoI Flynn. Patrice has 12 pairs of spectacles, each used for a dif ferent purpose. She once used contact lenses but has given that up. Incidentally, spectacles are now so cleverly designed that they actually add to the appear ance. They think it gives them a distinguished appearance. Some girls who have no need for spectacles wear the dark type. They think It gives them a distinguished appearance. Makes them seem to be a celebrity who does not wish to be recognized. Cigars In this country among men with incomes of $7,000 annually and under, only one in 16 is a cigar smoker. So I note it claim ed. That I cannot understand. Cigar smoking is not expensive. There are many fine 10 and IS cent cigars available. By the box they can be purchased even more reasonably. Seems to me the cigar industry Is weakly ex ploited. She is fooling every body. o o o Mrs. K. S. R We have Just learned some shocking facts about our daughter-in-law. While visiting a nearby town it came to our attention that she had been a rather wild girl and had been Involved in some sor did affairs with men. My husband is beside himself with rage and wants to tell our son and break up the marriage. They now have two children and May seems to be a good housekeeper and a good mother. Although the facts seem clear enough and beyond any doubt, it still seems difficult to believe that a girl with so sordid a past could be the nice young woman that my daughter-in-law appears to be. I do not feel the way my hus band does. While I am dismayed and terribly hurt inside, I am not sure that it would be right to break up their home and family. At the same time, I do not feel right about permitting them to go and on and, per haps more children to live on the shadow of her past. I do not know what to do. K. S. R. This girl may be doing a good job of fooling all of us, but I cannot believe that a girl who took rewards for her favors can now be a moral per son and a good mother and wife. She may think that she has made a better deal in being a respectable married woman, but or making d Mw ton Ihtwgjk Bondt - - t -a , .fa Cofleeje fWvcoriots. through Bonds The U.S. Government dooa not pay for thlf U. I know it seems terrible to break up a home and family, but it would be worse to break up a home of three or four chil dren than a home of two. I don't think we should let this go any further. If we do not tell our son, I feel we will be betraying him. o The Councili We cannot agree with the father's opinion that a girl who has done sordid things cannot put those things forever behind her. Mary Magdalene managed to do just that, and there have been many other, in every generation. These people, of course, are exceptional, but on the face of it, the young woman in this instance is among those. The anxiety of the father and mother who have just made this shocking discovery is under standable, and their responsi bility is great. There is no sim ple way out for them. They dare not crudely toss their dynamite into the home of these young people, yet they cannot feel right about keeping a heavy secret from their son. They should, therefore, lean on outside help. A clergyman could be relied upon to share their secret in confidence. It would be invaluable to have the advice of a clergyman who knew her in the old days and of one who knows her now.
