MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEK News About Books From the Library Sunday, June 10. 1358 With flower In plentiful sup ply, the Medford Public library' books on flower arrangement circulate rapidly at this time of year, according to Librarian Helen Webster. Numerous manuals are avail able at the library which give step-by-step procedures for cre ating interesting and attractive arrangements. A book planned to meet the needs of every per son interested in making success ful flower arrangements, wheth er expert or beginner, is "The Complete Bpok of Flower Ar rangement," by F. F. Rockwell and Esther Grayson. There are several chapters by a number of nationally known experts which give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of flower shows and tell the secrets that help Dish Towef Brings Success to Designer New York (U.PJ Some de signers win fame and fortune with new looks in fashion. Pat Prichard has wrung success from the diki towel. Miss Prichard, a pretty New Yorker still in her 20's, is one of the first designers to change . dish towels from the sterile white drying cloth to a gaily dec orated bit of whimsy. Now, just about everyone is in the act, and the dish towel, 1956 version1. isn't even a distant cousin of those of a few years ago. The towels come decorated with spice jars, pots and pans, poetry, knives, forks and spoons, with early American motifs, Paris street scenes, and even with a scenic history of transportation to brighten hub by's evening of doing the dishes. Miss Prichard said the cneery designs of today's dish towels are mostly the result of an over all trend to more color and at tractiveness in the kitchen. USE NEW POTATOES New York (U.PJ Try this easy recipe using new potatoes. Fill a casserole with cooked, whole new potatoes and sprinkle them with grated sharp cheese. Place under a broiler until the cheese has melted. Add a dash of lemon juice and a dusting of paprika. The Alabama Extension Serv ice says that the bases of coffee pots and frying pans easily can be wiped clean, if they are soaped before using on outdoor grills. A solution of mustard and water will remove odor from jars and bottles. win awards. One of the newer titles is Loret Swift's "Flower Arrang ing Book." Mostly photographs, with handy step-by-step direc tions, this book is an invaluable aid to the beginner. Another re cent title, "Contemporary Flow er Arrangement," by Rae Gold son, ha3 a new approach to flow er arrangement, considering the relation of the art to modern living, modern design and mod ern decorating. A color wheel of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, with in structions on using it as a guide is the distinctive feature of Mar garet Dodson's "Easy Guide to Color for Flower Arrange ments." This is a recently pub lished book,- now on order for the Medford Public Library. There are many books that consider the specialized aspects of flower craft.. Of interest to miniature enthusiasts is "Mini ature Flowers and Vases," ar ranged by Anne Ashberry. This charming book with beautiful photographs, will probably in spire those readers who already possess tiny vases to use them for flower arrangements in min iature and others to start col lecting immediately. Dried arrangements are cov ered by Tatsuo Ishimoto in his book, "Plant and Driftwood Ar rangement." In the arrangements are used just four basic ma terials: living plants, cut greens, weathered wood and stone. A practical manual for women is "Corsage Craft," by Glad Reusch and Mary Noble. Every aspect of corsage making fundamental to the art is covered. All the above books and oth ers on the subject are available through the Medford Public Li brary and the Jackson County Library system. Camp, Auxiliary To Hold Dinner Colonel Sargent camp, United Spanish War Veterans, and the auxiliary will hold their last meeting before vacation Sunday, June 17, at 1 p.m. at Redman hall on Apple street. The usual potluck dinner will be served and members are asked to call Mrs. Josephine Widner, tele phone 2-2225, about arrange ments for the dinner. Final plans will be made for a skit for the stunt night at the department convention in Eu gene July 8 to 11. Also there will be practice at 11 a.m. for members who will attend the convention, officers and the drill team from Grants Pass will at tend the practice. All USWV veterans and their families are welcome to attend.
