Report of Yreka
Water Supply Given
Yreka Yreka Water Commis
sioner Jim Cummings reported
Tuesday on the city's water re
sources as of June 1, 1956, as
compared to June 1, 1955, dur
ing last year's drought.
Boston Shaft stands now with
only 61 feet to water as com
pared with 76 feet last year. At
Greenhorn Well, the creek is re
ported still running, with a full
head of gravity, and with a con
tinuous pumping capacity of 24
hours per day. At the same well
last year, pumping capacity had
been reduced to 12 hours per
day, and the creek bed was
totally dry.
North Well is at the 12 foot
mark, and may be pumped 24
hours per day, as compared to
a seven-foot level last year.
The old reservoir is full, Cum
mings said, while a year ago it
contained only three feet of
water, and Steele reservoir is
also full, with one pump
running.

Man's Body Found
In Portland Debris
Portland (U.R) The body of
a man was found yesterday in
the burned warehouse of the
Gilbert Brothers Company here,
Fire Inspector C. W. Stickney
reported.
The man was tentatively iden
tified from papers in a wallet
as Ralph Randall Cummings,
46, Portland. The body was
found by a Gilbert Company
workman, Arnold W. Jensen,
who was cleaning 'up debris
from a Memorial Day fire.
Stickney said that apparently
stored merchandise equipment
had fallen on Cummings and
buried him. .
he did four years ago.
Morse pointed out that as a
convention delegate he is bound
by the decision of the Oregon
delegation which is declared 'for
Stevenson, and that he has "no
regrets" over that decision. He
praised Stevenson highly, but
said he would devote equal ef
forts to the election of any other
"great Democrat."
Morse spoke at a convention
of the United Hatters, Cap and
Milinery Workers Union.

PAYS FINE WANTS FARE
Chicago (U.R) Cab driver j
Frank Leonard paid a $40 traf-
f ic fine . without a whimper
Thursday, then demanded a 55
cent fare from the policeman
who arrested him. Leonard said
he drove Policeman Thomas
Clifford to the station after his
arrest. Clifford said the ride
was Leonard's idea, and besides,
the cabbie would have had to go
to the station anyhow, to pay the
fine.

Those who should know say
that all-male conventions make
the most noise in a hotel but all
female conventions do the most

Hangtown Fry
A Chicagoan, who prides her
self on her knowledge of the
culinary art says she was
"frightfully embarrassed" when
asked what hangtown fry is and
was unable to answer. The hang
town fry, which originated in
Hangtown (now Placerville),
Calif., is a combination of oys
ters, bacon, eggs, hot peppers,
chili sauce and milk dumped in
to a skillet and fried.

love. 3. He's a liar. 4. He's too
