Richardson, 1S4 DeHague St., Medford, reported to the Jack son county sheriff Thursday morning that a prowler tried to remove a acreen from the kitchen window of his residence at about 11:19 p.m. Wednesday. Prisoner Hare James Mer edith Hatfield, 38, Portland, was escorted from Bend to Medford Wednesday by Deputy Sheriff Glenn Wright. Heine's Juniors A party will be held Saturday, June 9, dur ing sessions of Bliss Heine's Juniors to honor two present members and a former member. All classes will be held at usual times with an intermission to be held between 10 and 11 a.m., for the party. Mothers of students will serve refreshments. Several members transferred last Satur day to the durm section to take places of drummers going away for the summer. On Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. McDonald, 110 Lozier lane, left this week to vacation in northern Oregon, Washington state and Canada. In Portland they are guests of the Rev. and Mrs. R. G.-Keller and will at tend the Rose Festival activi ties. At Seattle they will meet their son, Calvin McDonald, a student at Seattle Pacific col lege, and the group will continue to various Canadian points. They will return by way of the Ore gon coast. GOC Picnic A picnic for members of the Ground Observ er corps of Jackson and Jose phine counties, and their fam ilies and friends, is scheduled for Tou Velle state park Sunday, June 10, at 10 a.m. Those who attend should take picnic lunch es and beverages. Various games, including soft ball, horse shoes, badminton and others will be part of the entertainment. The park is located on Table Rock rd.. eight miles north of Medford on Rogue river. Recent visitors also at .he Sconyers' home were Mr. and Mrs. Barney Fields and daughter, Virginia, Huntington Beach, Calif. Mrs. Fields is a sister of Mrs. Sconyers. They left Wednesday for their home. Court Sold The sale of the home at 16 Myers court, former ly owned by Don W. Paulsen of Paulsen's Thrift market. Central Point, to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd L. Hildenbrandt, who live on Thompson creek, has been an nounced. The announcement was made from Fidler-MacKen-zie Agency, Inc., where the sale was transacted by Bill Kerr of the agency. The Paulsen s are building a new home closer to Central Point. The Hilden brandts will continue to live at their present home and pur chased the Medford property for income rental. The Paulsens will move to their new home later In the summer from 18 Myers court. Man Found Innocent on Driving Charge Here A district court jury verdict Thursday morning found Robert Joseph Webster, 18, of 4425 Pa cific highway south, Medford, innocent of a charge of follow ing too close. Webster was. arrested by state police. on Highway 99 May 25. He was represented by no attor ney when he appeared In dis trict court. SPECIAL! 595' with all the " trimmings PARK P' CE CAFE Miss Sadie Pence Dies Unexpectedly Miss Sadie Pence, 74, of 20 West Jackson st., died unexpect edly this morning at her home She was a native southern-Ore- gonian and for many years lived at Williams. She had been a resi dent of Medford for about 20 years. Miss Pence was an active worker in the Church of the Brethren and assisted in work for the blind through visits here of Mrs. Vera Thompson, Port land, field representative for the Oregon commission for the blind. Miss Pence had been blind for about 10 years. Homemaking and handicraft classes for the blind and visually handicapped were held at her home through the commission. Survivors include two sisters. Mrs. O. O. Morton, Medford. and Mrs. Harley Sturgeon. Portland; and two brothers. Ray Pence, Medford, and Charles Pence, Williams. Conger-Morris Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. June I, 1958 Law Officers Hold Informal Meeting Approximately 40 ; law en forcement officers from eight Oregon and California counties were guests of the Jackson county sheriff's office at an in formal gathering yesterday in the courthouse auditorium. The officers discussed mutual problems, crimes and known or suspected violators as well as methods of dealing with prob lems. As a special feature of the meeting photos of suspected vio lators and crime scenes were shown through a projector. Attending were city, county and state police officers from Jackson, Curry, Coos. Douglas, Josephine and Klamath counties in Oregon and Del Norte and Siskiyou counties in California. Horace Furnas Dies Unexpectedly at Work Horace Tomlin Furnas, 56, transitman on the Jackson coun ty road survey crew for the past eight years, died unexpectedly about 1:30 p.m. Thursday while the crew was working on North River rd., west of Rogues River. Furnas began working for the county on May 26, .1948. He lived at 502 Mae St., Medford. Survivors include his wife and a son. Funeral arrangements are pending at Conger-Morris Fun neral home.
