In Ship Furnace
New York (U.R) A Domini
can revolutionist insisted today
that the body of scholar Jesus
de Galindez was burned in the
furnaces of the freighter Fun
dacion despite failure of police
to find a single clue aboard the
vessel.
Police including detective.
fluent in. Spanish, boarded the
vessel for four hours Wednes
day, inspected the furnaces and
questioned the 36 crew member.
Cm Still Open
Detective Lt. Martin Meyer
said though no clues were
found the case was still open.
lhe Investigation was ordered
following charges by Nicholas
Silfa, Dominican Republic revo
lutionary leader in exile, that
Galindez, who mysteriously dis
appeared on March 12, was
thrown alive into a steamins
boiler. '
Police investigation of the
ship's engine room revealed that
the blast of flame and hot air
would burn persons close by to
a crisp if any one of the three
boilers were open while they
were steamed up.
Body Said Burned
I want to repeat again," Silfa
said, "that on orders of Dictator
Rafael L. Trujillo and his ex
perts in political assassination.
the body of Dr. Jesus de Galin
dez was thrown into the firebox
of a boiler of a Dominican
steamship Fundacion and burned
to a crisp to remove any trace
of this outspoken critic of the
Trujillo regime."
Galindez was the Spanish
Basque lecturer at Columbia
University. He was last seen on
March 12. The instructor had
written a dissertation critical
of Trujillo, for 25 years ruler of
the Dominican Republic. Vari
ous Dominican officials have
vehemently denied the charges.
