Practice last night was hard
and long but marked by en
thusiasm as some 30 Cheney
aspirants drilled. The workout
was an indication that competi
tion is keen and that players
will have to battle hard for
starting berths on the Southern
Oregon League club during the
season.
The Medford crew is expected
to have a stiff test in its first
time out. Yreka already has
seven games, behind it. The Cal
ifornians are fourth in a current
ly tight race in the Northern
California League. They stand
3-2 in the loop and four other
crews have 4-1 marks.
Peterson Signed
Jerry Droscher. from Rose
burg high, is the possible start
ing twirler for the Studs. Rocky
Biscotti likely will get the call
for Yreka. :
Manager Jack Cooney of the
Medford semi-pros has an
nounced the signing of Twink
Peterson, Oregon State college
shortstop. He hails from Salem
and played for Bend in the SOL
last season. Peterson is expected
to perform at either shortstop
or second base for the Studs.
The Oregpn Stater is to be
here for the Bend-Medford se
ries Saturday and Sunday. Also
joining the club at that time will
be Terry Maddox, pitcher and
all-Northern" Division outfielder
at University of Oregon. He is
an ex-Medford high star and a
Studs' veterpn.
Selsor Arrives
Bob Selsor, University of Cal

who was a ; Stud inf ielder last
season, has, rejoined the team.
He'll pitch mostly for the Studs
this year and was known in Cal

An ordinance was adopted last
night by the city council follow
ing a public hearing for construc
tion of a water main on Board
man St. from McAndrews rd. to
Ohio St., and assessing property
owners within the area.
Several residents who will be
assessed for the watermain on
Boardman St., objected on the
basis they would be assessed for
a water main which would not
benefit them. .
Property owners said some
residents of Boardman st. were
getting water from McAndrews
rd. or Riverside ave. water
mains and would not be benefit
ing from the new main. Coun
cilmen pointed out the residents
were now using water from
mains for which others had been
assessed.
Another ordinance following
the hearing was passed by the
council calling for the paving
of Boardman st. from Ohio st.
to McAndrews rd.
The council passed an ordin
ance following a hearing for va
cating parts of Marshall ave.
The planning commission April
23 recommended that Marshall
ave. through the Garfield sub
division be vacated.
The council also passed ord
inances following hearings for
paving Kenwood ave. from
Humphrey st. to West Second
st. and Broad st. from Clark st.
to Jackson st.
