t Estimated $100,000 In Brink's Robbery Loot Seized Boston 01. K The fabulous $1,219,000 Brink's robbery took a sensational new turn today following discovery of some of the hottest cash in the world in a green metal beer cooler. Police and FBI agents seized, an estimated S100.000 Monday In a raid on a South End office. The money in mouldy, rotten bill was taken from the cool er after authorities broke down a fake wall panel in the base ment office of a building. Two men were arrested near the office and held for arraign ment today on charges of acces sory after the fact of robbery and receiving stolen goods. 'Definitely' Brink's Loot The bills were identified as "definitely" Tart 0f the loot tak en in the Jan. 12, 1950,' holdup at the Brink's counting house garage in Boston's North End. Ten of the alleged Halloween masked bandits are now under arrest In Massachusetts await ing trial. The raid was staged on infor mation gained in the arrest Sun day night of roly-poly ex-convict Jordan Perry, 31, of Boston in Baltimore. Perry, a partner in the contracting firm which leas ed the raided office, was seized after trying to pass a limp-looking $10 bill at a Baltimore shoot ing Rallery. The FBI in Baltimore said on Monday night that the Justice department, Washington would decide later when Perry will be returned to Boston. FBI Counts Money Sixteen packets of aging bills ranging in denomination from $1 to $1,000 were counted Mon day night by seven FBI accoun tants. Though a few bills have turn ed up from time to time and have been identified as part of the Brink's haul. The move by the board came in response to a resolution adopted by the Oregon Method ist conference last week asking the board of implement the dis continuance of air reserve offi cers training programs at the i Methodist university. In an earlier development Monday, Superior Judge Felix Forte set Aug. 6 as the date for the start of the Brink's trial. The 10 men awaiting trial are scattered throughout the state in county jails for security reasons. An 11th man accused of taking part in the holdup is dead. President Authorizes Wapinitia Project Washington U.R) A bill signed by President Eisenhower yesterday authorized construe tion of the Juniper division of the Wapinitia reclamation proj ect in Wasco county. The measure would authorize construction of the Wasco dam on Clear creek, 35 miles west of Maupin, ' creating an artificial lake of nearly 600 acres where a recreation area will be planned. The project would provide supplemental water to 2108 acres of land in Wasco county. Albany Area Schools Vote on Consolidation Albany, Ore. U.R) Resi dents of Brownsville, Shedd and Halsey. school district voted to day on a proposed consolidation of the three union high school districts. ' If voters approve the pro posed merger, a new high school building will be constructed at a central location for the three districts. Grade school districts in the three towns would take over the current high school buildings. Japan Cultural Mission Will Visit in Moscow Tokyo (U.P) An 11-man Japanese cultural mission 'will leave Tokyo Saturday for a month's visit to Moscow, it was reported today. Sponsored by the Japan-Soviet Amity Society, the mission will be the forerunner of an exchange of Japanese - Russian cultural groups. Fast Action Seen on Seaton Appointment Washington (U.R) The Senate today appeared to be pre pared to catapult Fred A. Seaton into the secretary of interior's chair. The Senate Interior Commit tee summoned Seaton for a hear ing on his nomination. And the committee scheduled a closed door meeting after the public hearing an indication of pos sible fast action. President Eisenhower only last week named Seaton, a White House deputy assistant, to suc ceed former Secretary of Inter ior Douglas McKay. Congressmen generally ap proved. Some Democrats served notice they have some sharp questions to ask Seaton. But confirmation of his appointment was expected and very soon. Tito Opens Formal Talks With Soviets Moscow U.R) Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia opened formal talks with leaders of the Soviet Union today. After two days of preliminary festivities, the Soviet and Yugo slav delegations started discus sions in the great Kremlin palace. The Soviet delegation was headed by Soviet Premier Niko lai Bulganin and Communist Party chief Nikita S. Khrush chev. Khrushchev 'at directly across the conference table from Tito. Tito paid courtesy calls on Bulganin and Khrushchev Mon day before visiting the tomb of V. I. Lenin and Josef Stalin in Red Square. The Yugoslav presi dent paid his respects to Lenin but pointedly, ignored the em balmed body of the late dictator whose rule he rejected. Brazilian Students Strike Against Fares Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (U.R Leaders of a nationwide strike by high school and university students claimed 90 per cent sup port today in protest against al leged police brutality during the student anti-fare hike riots. Rio De Janeiro students walked out on indefinite strike last week to back up demands that the doubling of street car fares, from one to two cruzeiros, be revoked. The increase ' had touched off riotous student dem onstrations Thursday in which at least 35 persons were injured and some 200 arrested. William Lambert, Oregonian reporter who co-authored a ser ies of articles in the morning newspaper, was slated to be call ed as the first witness today. Yesterday's opening hearing saw two witnesses called to tes tify, both newspaper reporters. Wallace Turner, Oregonian re porter who worker with Lam bert on the newspaper's series, and Doug Baker, a reporter with the Oregon Journal were the only two witnesses called during the opening day's session. Grange Convention j Has Large Attendance Pendleton U.R) The 83rd annual convention of the Oregon State Grange opened here yes terday with officials reporting the largest attendance in the past several years. Committee work started yes terday on the some 70 resolu tions submitted to the state meeting for action. One of the most controversial items expect ed ,to come before the dele gates will be three resolutions favoring adoption of ' a state sales tax for the support of education. The Grange has long been a staunch opponent to any sales tax. The some 700 members in at tendance were scheduled to start work on the host of reso lutions today. The meeting will continue through Friday. HUBBY 'STOPPED' Chicago' U.R Superior Court Judge Harry G. Hershen-; son Monday ordered Edmund F. Clark to stop: Putting matches in locks, setting the furniture in patterns, jotting down license numbers of cars parked in front j of his home, and asking the children if the dog barked while he was away. Mrs. Clark, who , has started divorce proceedings, said her husband was checking up to make sure she was not see ing another man. PERSECUTION CHARGED Bogota, Colombia (U.R) The Evangelical Confederation of Colombia charged Monday that there is a "growing relig ious persecution" against Prot estant denominations throughout the country.
