The university! 79th com mencement will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday with Dean Douglas Horton of the Harvard Divinity school giving the address. Can didates for the degrees total 1253 and if these students suc cessfully complete requirements for their degrees, there will be a total of 897 baccalaureate de grees granted, 319 masters de grees, 18 doctor of education degrees, 18 doctor of philoso phy degrees, and one doctor of Jurisprudence degree. Alumni day will be Saturday, June 9. Reunions will be held bv the classes of 1906, 1911, 1910, 1921, 1926 and 1931. Final classes for the year were held Friday. Examinations for spring term will be held Mon day through Friday with the term ending Friday. The university's summer ses sion is scheduled to start Mon day, June 18. Whil House Writer Washington (U.R) Back stairs at the White House: This is the time of year when most of the button and banner manufacturers are trying to sell the major political parties on campaign materials. One reject ed last week by the GOP Na tional committee was a luminous bu to bumper sticker which said, "Drive carefully. The life you save may vote Republican." I lawn, it would make life even j more difficult for the reporters and photographers who periodi cally race through the Maryland and Pennsylvania countryside to keep track of the President. A good unverified bet: If Mr. Eisenhower is reelected, he may start commuting between Wash ington and Gettysburg by heli copter. The helicopter would pick him up on the south lawn of the White House and land him in the front yard of his farm house within 45 minutes. If such a service comes about, it will play hob with the report ers and photographers whose professoinal duties require trail ing the President every time he leaves town. It seems unlikely that the White House would permit a press helicopter to use the south The public should be able to get a rather full diet of reading on matters presidential this summer. Robert Donovan has a history of the Eisenhower administra tion coming out in July. Walter Bedell Smith, a general on the Eisenhower World War II staff, has a book scheduled for publi cation two days from now called "Eisenhower's Six Great Decis ions." The book deals with the 1944-45 period in Mr. Eisenhow er's miltary career. Another current work is "The Truman Scandals" by Jules Abels. Abels believes when more information is available on the inside operations of the Truman administration "a graver indict ment may yet emerge." Abels plainly thinks poorly of the ex President and the people around him. of the literary scale, has a most favorable book out about Mr. Eisenhower, "The Eisenhower Years." And before the political con ventions are over, there prob ably will be several more. A campaign year brings out the writing experts in force. When Mr. Eisenhower took off from Gettysburg on the morning of Memorial day, he realized that he was returning to his farm in such a short space of time that it seemed rather waste ful for the reporters and photo graphers to drive back to Wash ington only for a day. "Why don't you stay up here and play some golf?" he said to the newsmen. But fearful of their editors, their wives and their children, the press and radio contingent dutifully drove back to Washing ton Wednesday, only to return Friday.
