Voters Favor School
Budget in Roseburg
Roseburg Voters of the
Roseburg school district last
week approved the proposed
1956-57 budget the third time it
came up tor a vote. They had
turned it down the two pre
vious occasions.
The budget, as submitted for
the third time this year, was only
slightly smaller than when sub
mitted before. The second de
feat followed a hot campaign by
both supporters and opponents.
Afterward, the many opponents
joined in n study of budget
needs, and finally came out in
support of the slightly-trimmed
proposal, which calls for the
expenditure of $1,045,774.72
outside the 6 per cent limitation.
A proposal that $15,000 be
spent for a "reevaluation" of the
school program, which also ap
peared on the ballot, was de
cisively defeated. Margin of ap
proval of the budget, and defeat
of the reevaluation, were both
almost 2 to 1.
