Fire Damages Lumber Kiln at Klamath Falls Klamath Falls U.R) Fire late yesterday caused an esti mated $20,000 damage to the dry kiln of the Diamond Lake lumber company near here. Six county " fire departments re sponded to the alarm and battled the blaze about an hour. The fire was believed to have started in electric motors of the kiln. ADVERTISING ON INCREASE Chicago U.R Advertising Age, trade magazine, said Satur day that national newspaper ad vertising showed a 17 per cent increase last year over the 1954 figure. It said a record $695 mil lion was billed in 1955 com pared with $594,100,000 the previous year. Summer Orchestra, Band Classes Set Beginning students who wish to enter band or orchestra sum mer classes will meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 2, in the Med ford High school band room, I. A. Mirick, band director, said today. Mirick said all students of dis trict 49 from the fourth through the 11th grades are eligible. A staff of instrumental teachers will be available to discuss with students individually about in struments most suitable for the individual, Mirick said. Among items checked, he said, are teeth formation, lip and jaw development, finger dexterity, left or right handedness, sense of pitch, and sense of rhythm. Mirick urged parents to accom pany children interested in tak ing summer classes at the meet ing. Registration for band or or chestra calsses will be held at 9 a.m., June 11, Mirick said. First orchestra classes start June 12 and first band classes start June 25. John Drysdale will teach orchestra and Mirick will teach band. Registration for intermediate and advanced band and orches tra students will be held June 11 at the high school, Mirick said. CIVIL DEFENSE MOVE Washington (U.R) Sen. John M. Butler, (R-Md.), predict ed last night the federal Civil Defense headquarters will be moved back to the Washington area from Battle Creek, Mich., ' by Jan. 1.
