MYRTLE WHIPPLE Rogue River A benefit card party was given by Mrs. Walter Shock and Mrs. Andrew Guffin at the Guffin home May 21. A dessert luncheon was served. Two tables of canasta and one of pinochle were enjoyed. Mrs. Walter Kasworm won the prize for high score in canasta and Mrs. Charles Babcock was high in pinochle. Those present were Mrs. Claude Willoughby, Mrs. Edna Paterson. Mrs. Charles Babcock, Mrs. Walter Kasworm, Mrs. Harry Condray, Mrs. Henry Bonney, Mrs. James Whipple, Mrs. Gertrude Friden, Mrs. Harry Nelson and the hostesses. Weslern Union Strike Possible Washington (U.R) Union and management representatives worked today to avert a possible nationwide Western Union Tele graph Co. strike. The present contract between the Commercial Telegraphers Union and Western Union ex pires at midnight. A union snokesman declined to comment on the possibility of a strike n a settlement isn l reached before the deadline. E. L. Hageman, national pres ident of the union's western un ion division, said new talks were scheduled this moraine. Both sides have agreed to ac cent a two-year contract. Mrs. Florence Milton enjoyed a visit with her son Roy and family at Wolf Creek last week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Goldmg re turned last Saturday from Val lejo, Calif., where they visited their son Ben Golding and family. Mrs. R. C. Cummings of Keno, Ore., is spending some time with her mother, Mrs. Mae Shults, while under the doctor's care here. Cummings was over and spent the week end. The funeral for Robert Breed ing was held at the Presbyterian church May 21. Mr. Breeding died suddenly at his home in Brookings. He had lived in Rogue River for many years be fore moving to Brookings. The Rev. D. F. Barnett conducted the services and interment was in Woodville cemetery. Mr. Breeding is survived by his widow, Myrtle, three daugh ters and one son, two brothers and one sister. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Owen of Grants Pass were dinner guests Monday at the L. A. Miller home. Mr. and Mrs. Newell and chil dren of Salem were week end visitors May 19 of Mrs. Newell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller of Highway 99 south. The Ray Davis family has moved from Foots Creek to a ranch on the Applegate. Mrs. Walter Strond left by plane May 24 for Anchorage, Alaska, to spend the summer with her daughter, Arlene Erick son. Russ Expected To Show New Planes Moscow (U.R) Western air experts said today they think Russia will disclose striking new warplanes at the annual air show June 24. "They wouldn't be inviting Gen. Nathan Twining to attend the show if they were not going to unveil something new and impressive," one western attache said. Twining, chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, announced Wed nesday he had accepted the un precedented Soviet invitation. Britain's Secretary of State for Air, Nigel Birch, and high rank ing Royal Air Force officers also will attend. Last year the Russians unveil ed new four-engined long-range turbo - prop bombers believed capable of refueling in flight like the big bombers of the U.S. Strategic Air Command. The Russians also showed a twin jet, all weather fighter, a single jet supersonic fighter and a twin-rotor helicopter for car rying troops.
