WILSON United Press dorrespondent - Washington (U.R) Every time President Eisenhower slams a golf ball down the fairway or, even into the rough, his grip on the Repub lican Party tightens. The idea he couldn't stand the campaign gaff again, couldn't face up to four Lvie c wuson more wn.ite House years, is dying hard. But it seems to be dying. Helping it die is the man whom the President laughingly refers to as "My fellow cardiac.'' He is Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson- whose sev ere heart attack took place a couple of months before Mr. Eis enhower was stricken. Demo cratic strategists will make an issue of Mr. Eisenhower's health with the "part-time president" slogan this year, despite John son's similar experience. Sound and Logical That is a sound and logical Democratic campaign issue. But it is qualified considerably by. Johnson's position in the Dem ocratic high command. The ma-; jority leadership is a tough job. Johnson is meeting his responsi bilities without evidence of dis tress.. So, too, is Mr. Eisenhower. Against the Democratic argu ment that the President can't take it is the day by day record of conferences and decisions, de spite an after-lunch nap. John son's active schedule may be as good an argument in behalf of Mr. Eisenhower's fitness as any the Republicans could devise. However Democrats, high and low, may rate the President, Re publicans acknowledge him to day as the boss. That was not the - situation five months ago during the uncertainty about his political plans. A stricken presi dent, so ill that he must bow out before his time, inspires neither fear nor confidence. He is not President To Spend Week End at Farm Washington U.R) The White . House said today that President Eisenhower plans to spend the week end at his Gettysburg, Pa., farm. . It will . be Mr. Eisenhower's third visit to his farm in a week. Tentative plans call for the President to fly to Gettysburg early Friday afternoon follow ing his weekly meeting with his cabinet. Mr. Eisenhower spent last week end at his farm and got in 27 holes . of golf Saturday. He went back Tuesday afternoon and played 18 holes and returned to Washington Wednesday morning- On Memorial Day, he prayed in a nearly empty church for the nation's war dead. in a position to impose discipline of which the Republican Party requires considerable because of its factional structure. Makes Whip Crack Best recent evidence that Mr. Eisenhower can make his whip crack mean something came this week when Fred A. Seaton, mid western newspaper publisher, be came the surprise choice to suc ceed Douglas McKay as secre tary of interior. McKay resigned to oppose Democratic Sen. Wayne Morse's reelection in Ore gon. Sixteen Republican senators, mostly right wing or Taft men, had endorsed Undersecretary Clarence A. Davis to succeed McKay. Both Seaton and Davis are Nebraskans. Seaton never was a right winger. He was on the Harold E. Stassen strategy board during one phase of the latter's efforts to obtain the Re publican ' presidential - nomina tion: His next political love was Mr. Eisenhower.' Republican right wingers'how ever, are accepting Seaton with out a murmur. Davis gracefully agreed to remain as undersecre tary to the man who got the coveted job. THERE'S MR. PRESIDENT ' Washington (U.R) An elderly woman in Lafayette Park, just across from the White House, was thrilled and surprised Wed nesday when President Eisen hower passed her on his way to church.
