Health Officials To Participaie in Workshop at SOC Seven community public health service authorities have indicated they will participate m the school health workshop June 11-22 at Southern Oregon col lege. Planning to attend are Wayne Smith, hearing consultant. Dr. David Witter, dental consultant. Dr. Eleanor Gutman, director of vision conservation section, Mary Ann Weidenger, dental hygienist and Frencis Reierson, health education director, all with the state board of health; Mary Bowman, health and phy sical education supervisor, state education, department; and Don A. Beagle, Oregon Tuberculosis and Health association. The wo'rkshop, being held for elementary and high school teachers for graduate and under graduate credit, will be under direction of Miss Dorothy Mus key, Jackson county public health educator. Morning Sessions Morning sessions will cover such subjects as physical exam inations, L-jalth records, screen ing by ':ne teacher and public health nurse, hearing, dental health, vision, communicable dis ease control and department services. Special interest ' groups will meet in the afternoon to work on specific problems related to school programs. Serving on the planning com mittee are John Stewart Jr., rep resenting the Classroom Teach ers association; Mrs. Myrna Frink, Principals association; Ernest R. James, Superinten dent association; Mary Ellen Bell, public health nurse, Dor othy Collard, supervisor of pub lic health nurse, Miss Huskey, health educator, and Dr. A. E. Merkel, health officer, all of the Jackson county public health de partment; and Dr. John Mc Auley, representing Southern Oregon college. Upper McKenzie Study Approved Portland U.R) A study of upper McKenzie river waters to determine their most beneficial use to the public has been au thorized by the State Water Re sources Board. However, the project will be undertaken only if it does not interfere with the program al ready mapped out for the board's small staff budget.. The board took the action after receiving a request from the Lano County Parks and Recrea tion Commission that it partic ate with other agencies in "a coordinated joint survey of the park and recreation environ ment and potential of the entire McKenzie river drainage." Another request, urging the board to "make a survey of the McKenzie area to determine its greatest value to the state as a whole" was received from the "Save the McKenzie" Com mittee. A U. S. Forest Service representative told the board that his agency would make a study of land productivity, which included recreational use fulness, in the federal forests of the McKenzie drainage. Bend Voters Reject Budget for Schools Bend U.R) Voters Monday turned down, 397 to 305, a school budget S368.455 in excess of the six per cent limitation.
