Peterson, 3857 Jacksonville high way, has been named outstand ing sophomore cadet in Air Force ROTC training at Oregon State college. He received a spe cial award from the Consoli dated Vullee Aircraft corpora tion at the annual spring mili tary review and ceremony, Peterson has also been selected to take advanced training as a junior and senior, leading to a reserve commission at gradua tion. He is a major in chemical engineering at OSC and a 1954 Medford High school graduate Novel Method Proposed For Paying Traffic Fines . Detroit (U.R) A novel way of paying traffic fines has been suggested in Detroit, auto capi tal of the world. It would allow traffic viola tors to make a deposit at a drive in bank eliminating the neces sity of showing up at traffic court or putting a check in the mail. Another suggestion would pro vide "quickie" parking lots ad jacent to traffic courts to allow quick service for fine payers. Theft Stuart Laughton Forbes, 40 North Peach st., re ported Sunday the theft of a spare tire and wheal from his car, according to Medford police. Mercy Flight Lemuel A. De- Haven, 215 Scenic dr., Ashland, was flown to Portland for treat ment at the Veterans Adminis tration yesterday. He was the 495th patient carried by the air ambulances of the non-profit Mercy Flights, Inc., of Medford. Son Born Mr. and Mrs. Walker Treece, Portland, are the parents of a son born Tuesday, May 22. The child has been nam ed Brian Hastings Treece, and weighed four pounds. Mrs. Treece is the former Jean Schu ler of Medford. This is the Treece's third child. Visits in Medford Roy Simp son, who broadcast frost warn ings in the Rogue valley for sev eral weeks early in the season, made a brief visit in Medford Monday night and this morning and left today for Pomona. Calif. Simpson is in charge of frost forecasting in the western states and has been visiting areas in which frost forecasters have been working. Obituaries JOHN GUSTANDAS The body of John Gustandas, 66, who died Sunday in the VA domiciliary at Camp White, is being forwarded today by Con ger-Morris funeral home to Phoenix, Ariz., for services and interment there. Mr. Gustandas was born in Turkey on Nov. 18, 1889. He served during World War I from May 27, 1918, through Jan. 18, 1919, as a cook in the Army. HARRY H. UNRUH Harry Roy Unruh, 65, died un expectedly yesterday at his home on Fern Valley rd. Con ger-Morris funeral home is in charge of arrangements. (Bennie) Longwill U.S. Army, Medford high school graduate, has been transferred from Fort Clayton in the Pana ma canal to the Army base at Fort Worth, Tex. Longwill, who enlisted in the Army in 1941, will retire in three years. He has his wife and three children with him in Panama. Tito Invites Indonesia Premier for State Visit Djakarta, Indonesia (U.R) President Tito of Yugoslavia has invited President Sukarno there for a state visit, the Indonesian information ministry announced today. The ministry said Sukarno ac cepted and that he would leave for Yugoslavia in September. Sukarno also will visit the Soviet Union during September and will stop over in Belgrade en route home from Moscow. California Fur Catch Valued Above Last Year Sacramento, Calif. (U.R) California's licensed fur catch was worth $144,600 during the past season, 56 per cent greater than last year. The increased value was re ported by the department of fish and game and was attribut ed to higher buyer demand for short-haired furs such as musk rate, mink, beaver and river ot er. AMBULANCE GOES UP Grand Rapids, Mich. (U.R) Police ambulances in this city go in all directions including straight up. An ambulance an swering a call at an auto agency Monday was waved onto an ele vator and whisked up to the fifth floor. There an ill employee was picked up and rushed to a hospital. NO MUSIC NO DRINK Lima, Peru (U.R) It's less noisy in Lima these days, but bartenders complain business is lousy. A month ago, an ordin ance banning jukebox music from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. went into effect, as part of an anti-noise campaign. Bartenders said their customers don't drink as much when they, don't have music.
